Lou Reed is one of the most influential artists of the rock era. From his days in the sixties as the main singer and songwriter of the Velvet Underground and through his mercurial solo career he has kept his audience and the critics on their toes with dramatic changes of musical direction from album to album. Underpinning everything however has been his unquestionable ability as a songwriter and performer of the highest class. This DVD contains Lou Reeds only Montreux performance to date in July 2000. This was part of his tour for the acclaimed Ecstasy album and the show features a number of songs from that release as well as Lou Reed classics such as Romeo Had Juliette, Set The Twilight Reeling, Dirty Blvd and Perfect Day. The line-up for the concert is: Lou Reed (guitars and vocals) Fernando Saunders (bass) Tony Smith (drums) Mike Rathke (guitars) Tracklisting: 1) Paranoia Key Of E 2) Turn To Me 3) Modern Dance 4) Ecstasy 5) Smalltown 6) Future Farmers Of America 7) Turning Around Time 8) Romeo Had Juliette 9) Riptide 10) Rock Minuet 11) Mystic Child 12) Tatters 13) Set The Twilight Reeling 14) Dirty Blvd 15) Dime Store Mystery 16) Perfect Day

Lou is smoking -- literally
Of the three Lou Reed concerts available on Amazon Prime and Qello, this is by far the best. The coolness just rolls off the screen and wraps around you. Drawing mostly from his 2000 album "Ecstasy", Lou and his three parners in crime go through a roaring set. In between some songs and teasing the long-suffering drummer, Lou smokes and uses a lit cigarette as an effective stage prop. Includes the best version of "Smalltown" I've heard. The bassist is really smokin, too -- in the metaphorical sense.

IF U LIKE...
To experience the passion an artist has for their newest material - also none of overdone 70s tracks on other vids. PERFECT DAY is the only one that comes close to fitting that category but i dont see it as common as -w. for my man or -s. jane or -r n roll or -wild side or -satellite. u get 3 from the great n.y. album & -smalltown from the DRELLA LP. The focus is the ECSTASY LP i believe. Montreux 7/2000 -2hrs.

VERY Happy
Item was perfect except for one tiny nick you can barely hear. Although I had 100% positive of over 400, I had not purchased for a long while, so it is taking me a while to get the hang of buying & ESPECIALLY leaving feedback. In any event, I'll continue to buy from Amazon. Thank you you for the good service & fine product.Cheryl Plumleigh (aka: Cheri Stewart)

One of Lou Reed's Best "Live " Performances
I agree with the one reviewer that this one surpasses "Spanish Fly" by miles, the production was First Class, sound was perfect, and again his band filled in all the Right spots throughout the show, especially Tony "Thunder" Smith who simply captivated me, and without a doubt, one of the BEST drummers ive heard in years. Along with Mike Rathke, and the one and only Fernando Saunders, Lou was in top notch form. One of the more enjoyable dvds ive bought in a long time. Highly recommend this performance to all.

A must have!!!
Oh man...this is awesome! A good snapshot of a live Lou concert around that time. Having never seen him live (sigh, tear), this is what I have to fall back on. It's intense, and the set-list can't be beat.

An absolute gem of a performance for Lou Reed fans
I knew much of what I know about Lou Reed's music from his New York CD, which was my first introduction to his music. I find that album as one of the best CD's of 80's; certainly the best in terms of its lyrical content from top to bottom. I had really no idea about Lou Reed the Guitar player, who, in this DVD is just beyond phenomenal. As a fan of some of the "greatest" guitar players of the last 30-40 years such as Hendrix, Page, Clapton and alike, I could wholeheartedly say that I felt he is second to none of the guitar players known as guitar greats. This DVD is a great selection of Reed's songs with great video imagery of his guitar work, very quality sound with crisp lyrical content from one the greatest poets of rock, and real quality of musicianship on the part of the whole band. Having just re-visited some of Lou Reed's songs on youtube and this DVD after his passing about 10 days ago, I felt almost like a duty to write this review and urge those of you out there to grab it when you can, because you'll not regret it!

LOU ROCKS THE HOUSE
I own a lot of music by the great Lou Reed. Have most of the dvd's that he has put out. This one ranks high on my list. Great recording. Concert Flows and I love the selection of songs. It's not the same braindead Lou songs that I'm tired of hearing as well as other Lou fans. Should be owned by every Lou fan out there... Buy It NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

The Best show live of Lou Reed
I have been studying the works of Lou Reed for a long Time and I have seen almost his available material on DVD, CDs and what it's possible to have about him. For sure this is the Best show live of him, far better than Spanish Fly. Just The DVD Berlin can be compared to this DVD. But this DVD is still far better. Lou is ok and the band is great. I wish he played everytime like this. Lou Reed is a singer with a very potencial on lyrics, but he fails when the subject is melody. Sometimes even his voice make the song worst. But let's forget this detail. He is a poet and he must be evaluated by his lyrics. But what I want to say is that in this DVD he is perfect in both aspects as musician, as composer and also he and the band plays in a melodic way and it's such good to listen to. If you are a fan of Lou reed this DVD must be seem. The best DVD ever!
