Very functional quality product
This drinker is very high quality and is exactly what I was looking for. I used some scrap PVC pipes to make a down-tube and gave me a good location to connect a garden hose. The end result is a very functional and low-maintenance way to ensure that my birds never run out of water. It is important to understand the adjustment screws and how they work. Carefully read the directions that are on the back of the package. As an added bonus, the dish is easy to remove with the water still connected and under pressure. This allows you to clean the dish without having to turn off the water pressure. Just put the dish back on and give it about a quarter turn, and the water supply fills it back up.

Well Worth the Money!!!
Purchased about a month ago. This water dish works very well!!! Simply connected to your water hose and the water stays filled up. Dish is hanging just at the right height for them to drink from! And yes there is some dirt that does get into the dish from Chickens but very little. All you have to do is turn it sideways and it automatically refills with fresh water. This is the 3rd different water dish we have purchased. And we are SOLD on this way of watering for our feathered friends. WELL worth the money!!!

Best Chicken Waterer I've Found, But it Has Flaws
These are the best automatic chicken waterers on the market, but they don't last forever. I've tried everything - from custom solutions (paint buckets and poultry nipples fed via PVC pipes), to the waterers the feed stores all have, and nothing is as reliable or convenient as these guys. However, they do get dirty, pretty quickly, because chickens tend to keep a lot of dirt in their beaks, and when they go for a drink, it ends up at the bottom of your red bowl here. That's not a big deal, but it does mean you'll have to pop this thing off every couple days to wash it out, and unfortunately, after a few months, it's likely that the little valve which controls the flow of water into this thing will fail. What happens next? Regular overflows. Pros: Won't need to haul a hose around anymore Don't need to refill the waterer every day, or every couple days even If you get it located in a great spot, it'll work for big chickens, little chickens, and even the wild birds that live in your bushes You COULD use this for other small mammals (little dogs, cats, etc.) Cons: The valves don't last too long - they're almost guaranteed to fail within a couple months time and there's no way to order new ones without replacing the entire mechanism (unless you get them from a tire shop or a bike shop...) The red bowl part gets really dirty much more quickly than I'd like, requiring me to remove the unit every couple days to clean it out with a hose Conclusion: While they aren't perfect, they're the best thing I've found thus far, and have dramatically reduced the amount of time I'm forced to dedicate to keeping our flock watered. Until I find something better, these sit at the top of the pile with 4 stars.

Best chicken water I ever used. They have been around along time
This is the best chicken water I have found after years of having chickens this is the way to go I clean it out about once a month however it does stay pretty clean on its own make sure it’s high enough to stay clean. And level It does take just a little bit of plumbing but it is well worth it. I never hardly even go inside my coupe or run. Anymore I hate those refillable chicken watered if u ever delt with them they suck lol this is the way to go

Does not work without tinkering, but then it works great
Update: changed to 1 star. This thing has caused nothing but headaches. No matter how tight I get the two adjuster nuts and even a lockwasher, the chickens eventually spin it until they make it stop working. The longest I have gotten out of this thing is a week without messing with it. Every week I have been taking it apart and fixing it, it's really just not a good design or something. Requires a tire stem adjustor tool. It also requires some adaptors that it really could just come with. The default way this thing is setup doesnt work at all. It will just leak water everywhere. You'll have to take it apart and figure out how it works, make adjustments and test until you get it right. I used a tire valve stem tool to tighten the stem. I then went to Ace and got a lock washer that fits between the two nuts because otherwise they come apart. Once you got it working, it works great. But there are other considerations you have to think of. The extra cost umbrella piece is almost mandatory or the chickens will try to sit on this. The pipe you use to hold it needs to be very firmly in place or the chickens will spill water everywhere. The mechanism for the water letout is heavily reliant on a spring. I dont think the spring is stainless steel, so eventually it will rust but you can replace it with stainless. Overall, ill probably buy another but this is NOT a simple plug and play type of waterer, you need to be mechanically inclined and at least comfortable with finding and buying plumbing fittings.

Improvement Over Hand Watering
Great idea with some downsides. I'm a vegetable and fruit grower. I started raising laying hens last season. I set up three of these water founts and used them for about 7 months. About once a month or so one would go offline, usually because of clogging or small malfunctions. Not a big deal when compared to hand watering every day but an issue. Also they have a tendency, just like the manual waterers, to accumulate chicken waste, dirt and other contaminates in the bowls. This is not a deal ender because they're also easy to clean out. I greatly expanded my flock this year and upgraded to the nipple style drinkers made by a company called Ziggity. The nipple drinkers are the perfect solution to all your poultry watering needs: they don't clog, they stay clean, and your litter will remain drier overall. Nipple drinkers are widely available, I believe a few companies make them, and they are a huge decreaser of work load and increaser of chicken health. They work for small flocks of a few chickens all the way up to hundreds or thousands. You can hook it right in to your garden hose or even easily attach it to a five gallon bucket (check out youtube). Also, the birds will learn to use them in seconds. My first group of chickens that were used to the Fount Waterer went right over to the nipple drinkers and started drinking as soon as we had it set up. FarmTek sells them as complete kits, or you can talk to a distributor and have them send you the perfect components for your system. Don't be intimated by a new watering system, nipple drinkers are easy to use and your chickens will love it.

Chicken Pen Game Changer
We're going on close to 3 years with this automatic waterer and it is immensely better than using those chicken waterers that are a pain to clean out and refill after a day or two. With the threaded bolt on the inside piece and spring you adjust it up and down depending on the water level you prefer so it will stop filling once there's enough weight within the bowl. It has held up through blistering hot months and frigit winters and once it breaks we'll be purchasing another. It does not leak, only overflows if it isn't adjusted correctly. It's the size of a cereal bowl. Every night when we put the birds up, I just swish my hand around and swing it around to dump out the pld water and debris and it refills with clean water. Besides adjusting the inside spring for initial set up, we've added a spout with PVC hanging down and it attaches the same way as you would put on a garden hose nozzle. I've seen other people just attach it to the end of a hose and it works just as well. I don't have to worry about my chickens, turkeys and ducts going without water at all.

Works well
I’ve used these for over a decade now. Just recently bought a few more. They’ve always worked well for me. They do really some cleaning regularly and just checking on them. But they have held up well. The internal parts are Brass and this won’t break. Dish is plastic but it’s been indescribable. Using this on a high pressure system with a pressure reducer so the chickens have water continually.

If it's leaking just look up schrader valve.
These are the best drinkers you can get, anyone having issues just look up what a schrader valve is and how to tighten it, be gentle when tightening they are small and sensitive just has to be finger tight. You're welcome! and enjoy your auto drinkers.

It is a bit frustrating to set up
I almost returned this, but finally found a friend that figured out the valve itself needed tightening otherwise, the water just free flowed. I googled the product help videos on youtube and none described what needed to be done to make it work. Thankfully it's no longer overflowing and working as intended, so I rate four stars based on the poor set up instructions.
