Modern style doors space the center of the deadbolt 5.5" to 6" above the center of the door handle latch. 85% of burglars gain entry through a door. Often, when intense force is applied to a door, the door will split apart in the areas near the door handle latch and/or the deadbolt thereby allowing a previously locked door to open. Look at the end of any entry door where the door handle latch button and the deadbolt stem are located and you will see that most of the door has been "hollowed out" in order to make room for the door lock hardware. This makes a door extremely weak in exactly the area of the door that you want it to be the strongest. The Door Lock Guard XL reinforces 1 3/4" thick exterior entry doors by "clamping" the locking hardware and the door together.
