Product Description The highly anticipated soundtrack from the Tim Burton movie starring Johnny Depp featuring original music and songs by composer and musician Danny Elfman. For his 11th collaboration with director Tim Burton, Elfman has composed the score as well as the original song 'Wonka's Welcome Song' (with lyrics written by Elfman and screenwriter John August, and music by Elfman). Elfman has also written the music for 4 other tracks with lyrics based on the lyric chants in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book by Roald Dahl. For the first time since The Nightmare Before Christmas, Elfman sings lyrics for the 4 Oompa-Loompa songs about four of the children who win tickets to tour Willy Wonka's incredible chocolate factory. Elfman's orchestral score and sweet new pop songs perfectly set the mood for this visually stylistic film. Warners. 2005. .com It's as if composer Danny Elfman's fertile relationship with director Tim Burton had been building up to this, their 11th collaboration and perhaps the one that best encapsulates their shared aesthetics: It's hard to think of a subject better suited to the two men than an adaptation of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. For the occasion, Elfman has come up with five actual songs (and sings on them), which reminds one of the 1980s heyday of his old band, Oingo Boingo. The first, "Wonka's Welcome Song" is a demented minute-long blast that evokes 1960s kiddie TV. Each of the other four (which use Dahl's own words) is dedicated to one of the children invited to visit Willy Wonka's factory, and each is done is a different musical style. All are fantastically fun. A personal favorite is the mock-operatic "Mike TeaVee," on which Elfman basically transposes "Bohemian Rhapsody" to a hyperactive cartoon universe. The lovely "Main Titles" acts as a transition into the instrumental part of the score and will be familiar to fans of Elfman's music for Edward Scissorhands, particularly its otherworldly, celestial choral sound. The rest of the tracks simply represent the work of Elfman and his longtime arranger, Steve Bartek, at their best, alternately flamboyant, dreamlike, and suggestive. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Wonderfully fun, different, and zany!
Tim Burton and Danny Elfman's most recent project as director/composer duo shines like all the rest. CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY is a feast for the eyes and the truest of treats for the ears. Elfman uses his incredibly keen talent to transform the oddball Willy Wonka and his five Golden Ticket holders into musical entities in their own right."Wonka's Welcome Song" is both kooky and hilarious, much as Wonka himself turns out to be. Wonka's (Depp) deadpan humor and odd mannerisms are transformed well into music by Elfman, who orchestrated themes for the character that reflect these interesting characteristics. The same goes for the five children who visit the factory -- each, with the exception of Charlie Bucket -- gets his/her own theme that plays on some humorous aspect of his/her character. These themes are sensational and quirky, but so much fun!As for the true orchestrations, Elfman's "Main Titles" showcases them the best. The ambience created by this track is truly delightful and slightly ominous, fast-paced but smooth in its flow. The variety of instrumental tracks is impressive, going hand-in-hand with thematic changes in the movie -- others to focus on are "Wonka's First Shop," "The Indian Palace," "The River Cruise," and (of course) the "Finale." Each carries a marvelous mix of instrumentation that is sometimes delicate, sometimes brusque, but always exciting. While this film and soundtrack will certainly not appeal to everyone, I would recommend giving both a shot. The film is different in its own right -- if you haven't seen it, you've surely never seen anything quite like it -- and, thus, so is the accompanying score. The idiosyncracies of each character aside, Elfman has done yet another marvelous job of creating a world all his own through music. CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, for all of its quirks and goofiness, is strangely charming and inviting. Drop in and give it a listen. Very highly recommended.

Willy Wonka! Willy Wonka!
Everything about this soundtrack is awesome, the orchestral tracks, the Wonka's Welcome Song, even some of the Oompa loompa songs are really cool, almost as good as the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory original soundtrack!!I really, really love the Main Titles music because it's got real orchestral music and it's really unique, actually the main titles of the film is one of the best parts of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!!The ONLY thing I really can not understand about this soundtrack is what possessed them to put the tracks out of order?? I mean, when you first watch the film, you hear the main titles music, not Wonka's Welcome Song!! I actually have to program my CD player which is very annoying by the way to play the tracks in the CORRECT order!! That's my only real problem with this CD. They could have at least put the tracks in the correct order like NORMAL people do but oh well. I understand that many people won't mind the tracklisting or they'll think I'm being too picky but I don't think wanting the tracklisting in the order you actually hear them in the film is too much to ask for!I recommend this CD and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory original soundtrack, they are both awesome!!!

Mmmmm chocolate!
I have to say one thing: amazing. This soundtrack is absolutely a delight to listen to. I've seen the movie twice and when I listen to the soundtrack, I can visualize many of the scenes from the movie. To me, that is a benchmark of a good soundtrack. Danny Elfman's orchestrations are wonderful. They are slightly off, but always match the mood of the scenes. If you enjoyed the music from Sleepy Hollow or the Spider-Man movies, you'll definitely enjoy the music from Charlie. Be warned: this music is nothing like the music from original movie. It's darker, and some might say, creepier. My 4-year-old absolutely loves it and I had to copy it to my Media player in order to listen to it, since she takes the CD wherever she goes. The songs for the brats in the movie are, I think, more enjoyable in this movie. If Danny Elfman isn't nominated for some kind of Oscar (song or music) this year, I would be extremely disappointed, and he's not even my favorite composer, either. As a lover of soundtracks, this is definitely one of my favorites from this year. Enjoy!

Muy Fabuloso!
This is the best soundtrack or bit of work that Danny Elfman has done for years. Elfman had some fairly moralistic songs when he was with Oingo Boingo, as witness "Capitalism", "Only A Lad" and "Nasty Habits", combine this lyrical bent with Roald Dahl's hilariously moralizing lyrics from the book and you have four absolutely fantastic songs, "Augustus Gloop", "Veruca Salt", "Violet Beauregard" and "Mike Teavee". The rest of the soundtrack is great, it's a fantastic complement with the movie of course but it stands well on its own. The soundtrack is a great piece of music to have on your workout playlist, fast, fun to listen to and with a compelling beat that makes even white guys like me want to shake their bootys and wave their hands in the air like James Brown.

CD and movie review!
The music to this movie is quite lyrical and rather funky. I think the movie is better than Willie Wonk and the Chocolate Factory. many may say this is heresy but I believe Johnny Depp was a much better Willie Wonka than Gene Wilder . I think the Oompa Loompa as played by Deep Roy is a much better character than the dwarves (little people, whatever) in Willie Wonka. This is a great CD

Great Soundtrack
Many people seem to hate this movie and the re-do of the music but fail to realize that the movie and the songs are closer to the book than the Gene Wilder version (which I also love a great deal) - Glad I got this soundtrack, Danny Elfman comes up with the craziest stuff.

Great soundtrack
My six-year-old son loves this film and he goes to sleep listening to this album. In his own words, it is his 'favourite CD' and you can't go wrong with Danny Elfman (of Spiderman fame I believe). It does what it says on the tin - great value and a sound investment!

Tolle Platte
