Best version yet.
I have liked this movie since I saw it on vhs, but this review is about the collectors edition bluray by shout/scream factory. It has all of the original bonus features from the dvd version and the rescan looks gorgeous. It is 2k and is from the original film elements. This version fixes the terrible cgi effect in the ending where the ghost looked flat from the side and was the only thing I did not like about this movie originally. It is a minimal fix essentially adding some depth and shadow to the ghost in that few seconds and makes the action sequence flow far smoother and look alot better 19 years later. If your a fan of this film this version is worth picking up and is what I would call the definitive version.

but forgot how much I loved. Geoffrey Rush dressed just like a Vincent Price ...
The late 90s were magic for the horror genre. This is one of those movies I know I saw, but forgot how much I loved. Geoffrey Rush dressed just like a Vincent Price knock off as a homage to Price's 1959 House on Haunted Hill? So perfect. Horror lovers should see it, and 90s kids should appreciate the "anything but subtle" feel of late 90s horror.

great looking and sounding blu ray
This is so much better than the dvd version. You can hear every line of dialogue, and the thumps and bumps really thump and bump. One of the movies on my must watch halloween night list. Entertaining with only a few slow boring scenes that don't last long. One of the better blumhouse movies. This scream factory blu ray looks fantastic and there are only a few frames during part of the movie when the camera goes for a close up zoom you can notice some blur or loss in picture quality but it doesn't effect the movie.Big improvement over the previous dvd version of the film. The deleted scenes are also very interesting and I can totally see why they left them out. My favorite part of this film is Geoffrey Rush he makes the entire movie.

A Superb Remake (with a fantastic cast)
Not only am I a fan of the original William Castle/Vincent Price version of this film, but I’m also a fan of this remake. I liked it when it first came out, and I’ve only grown to appreciate it more and more over the intervening years. Geoffrey Rush is quite simply a marvel in this film. And the entire cast shines as well.SPOILERS AHEAD...As a kid, it always bothered me that the haunted house of the original film wasn’t really haunted; so when I saw THIS version of the movie I was overjoyed to how they played with those same expectations. And I was rewarded with Lovecraftian horror (my favorite kind of monster).END OF SPOILERS...This new Scream Factory Blu-Ray is a real treat, even though the extras a pretty much the same as the old DVD. If you’re already a fan, pick this one up at a sale price (anything under $20 as of this moment in time) and enjoy a truly spooky movie. The addition of Jeffrey Combs in this movie was truly inspired casting.

One Of The Better Remakes Before The Remake Craze Hit The Horror Genre
Horror genre, meet the updated remake. Movie goers who made this a hit, meet the updated remake of the 1959 William Castle pic. This film stands out in light of the remake craze that swept the horror genre four years after this film hit theaters as it made releasing horror films close to Halloween in vogue and proved that making remakes of certain horror films in this day and age is profitable. As for the film itself, I watched this recently after quite some time after my last viewing and I loved it. This had creepy atmosphere, atmospheric music supplied by Don Davis of The Matrix trilogy, a spooky and fitting song choice provided by Marilyn Manson, pretty good story line that paid tribute to the original and did its own thing without insulting the original, great acting, especially from Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush as amusement park owner Stephen H. Price (He grew the mustache to pay tribute to John Waters because he didn't want to look like the regular businessman Stephen Price was described as in the script. However, he ended up looking a lot like Vincent Price in the process.), a very gripping ending (The CGI is, to me, as realistic as the CGI in Jurassic Park and definitely looks a lot more realistic than the CGI found in many movies I could supply a whole list with.), and the medical equipment even looked scary too. All in all, a worthy remake to a pretty good horror film and one worth watching too.

One of my favorite Classic Horror Movies.
This is a classic horror movie. I always watch this one on October on tv for Halloween month. But they stopped playing it so I knew it was time to buy it and I knew amazon would have it. Buy the movie you will like it.

It's about time!
I have been waiting SO LONG for this to finally get a blu-ray release. It's one of my favorite movies. Yes, I do realize that there is the original with Vincent Price (Which is pretty cool for its time) which I own as well. HoHH 1999 has a very creepy atmosphere and it is funny in some parts. :)

Use the first line in the review
Absolutely HILARIOUS!! Some of the images are difficult, but the entire movie is a satire on horror movies. The main character is made up to look like Vincent Price, and IS named Mr. Price. The special effects are even funny in themselves, making jokes with the images. It's hard to write about this without telling too much of the plot. There is a haunted house with a history. There are a group of people who don't know each other invited to spend one night together in the house with a big financial reward at the end if they manage to get through to the next morning. There is something that connects them but they don't know it. The group of people are all hot shots in different professions, or think they are. Cinematography is all done in sleek harsh brilliant color so even the colors look fake. Watch it!

Good movie - awful BluRay. Three Wolves should be ashamed!
I loved this movie when it was released, but this transfer is the worst I have ever seen on BluRay, and I've seen a lot. When the action starts or there are searchlights, the video gets very juddered. It almost looks like it has been encoded improperly and the scenes are at about 15 frames per second. At first, I thought it was a bad disc so got another, but alas it was the same. How this disc got the green light, I will never know. Apparently, the german release is miles better and has better sound too. Keep an eye out for that one and avoid this one at all costs. I couldn't even get past chapter 8 it was so bad and made my eyes hurt

HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL: CLASSIC HAUNTED HOUSE HORROR!
Haunted house horror. The score composed by Don Davis is classic haunted house horror music and adds a gothic feel to the film. The lead character played by Geoffrey Rush takes on the persona of Vincent Price as this is a remake of his original version with more gore and guts. The plot follows a group of people who must survive the night to win one million dollars each. It is not that simple as there are many evil mechanisms, traps and ghosts providing torture!

Like "The Mirror" said, Dark,Delicious Fun!
You can't REALLY class this House on Haunted Hill as a Horror flic in the true genre because there is too much Black Comedy in it, mainly seen when Famke Janssen and Geoffrey Rush playing husband and wife in the film, play-off each other! She wants her Birthday Party to be held at the home of one of Rush's workers, "The House" which was once the County Lunatic Asylum where the practising Doctor in Charge and his Staff were madder than their charges and they carried out horrific experiments until the inmates escaped their cells and turned the tables before the place was ignited and most perished.Rush offers $1million each to anyone who will stay o/night in the mansion and who manages to SURVIVE? 4 people are invited by his wife on her guest list which is changed by him which is then changed by a person unknown and the 4 arrive in chauffered limos, Ali Larter, Bridgette Wilson, Tye Diggs and Peter Gallagher and Murder,Mystery,Horror and the un-explained begin?
