I was an early e-reader adopter and have had nooks and kindles since 2010. My ipad is great for lots of things but I hate reading books on it. The kindle doesn’t give you eye strain, you can read it outside in bright sunlight, it’s much lighter than an iPad mini, and the battery life is better because you’re only reading on it. Also, if you borrow or download your books, then put it into airplane mode, the battery lasts a really long time. I read for hours every day, and I would be lost without my kindle. I borrow tons of books from my library via my kindle and consciously avoid the books that aren’t compatible because I don’t enjoy reading on my iPad nearly as much. Buy a kindle. You’ll love it! **Q: Can you read email on this device?** A: No, this is an ebook reader only **Q: must all books be purchased or rented?** A: You can either buy the kindle version of the book or go through Kindle Unlimited. You can “rent” up to 20 books at a time through KU. When you finish, just return them. There’s also a way to download books from Libby that requires a library card.
