The Never King: Vicious Lost Boys, Book 1

3.5 stars for me
So, when you read reviews, you get a sample of what a book is like. For example, one review I read for this book said it was super steamy, and another said it was almost like porn. Well, of course, I love a steamy book, so I read it. Let me tell you; the letdown was real. I'm not sure what steamy porn they watch, but it must come from made for women category. It is definitely not the porn I usually watch. Nothing against the softer stuff, but when I think about steamy porn, it is not this. So yes, it had a slight bit of steam to it, but nothing to make me clutch my pearls. It was a dark twist on Peter Pan, which was cool, but besides some choking, making her crawl, and people-watching, there was not much steam coming from this book. I would still recommend it because the twist on Peter Pan is cool.

Peter Pan With Tattoos, Cigarettes, & a Dirty Mouth 😳
🛑SPOILERS🛑⭐️:4/5PETER PAN AND WENDIE!?!?!Booktubers have been raving about this series for a while now. I have been ignoring reading it not because I wasn't interested, but due to reading other books. This book was short, but there was so much going on. Mysteries, lies, & s*x 😳! When the book first started it began with a bang and I mean literally with Wendie basically getting some 🤣. However, as the book went on and you witness her mom and then an tattooed smoking Peter Pan show up I was intrigued. As the book went on and I saw there were many s*x scenes and sexual tension I was like not again. I don't like when authors have so much SMUT in there books it takes away from the plot. With the plot of Peter losing his shadow there was alot of needed answers.Once the end came I was bitting my nails which is great. I knew Tily was doing something from the beginning to the darlings and I am suprised Peter or none of the Lost Boys caught it early on. The scene when Wendie gets that memory finding Peter's shadow I was shocked at how well it was.Now that I finished this book I am excited for the next. What the hell is the other shadow 🤷🏾♀️? To me Peter is to careless and needs to be more careful in what he does. I have so many questions that I am excited to get answered.I definitely recommend this book if you don't want the G rated version of Peter Pan anymore or 24/7 🤣.

Holy Peter Pan!
This would have been 4/5 stars, but the audiobook bumped it to 4.5 stars. I loved the entire cast that narrated the book. I immediately recognized Shane East and was SOLD.If you go into this expecting groundbreaking literature, you will be disappointed. But if you go into it excited about what it is, you will enjoy it. I devoured the story. I just recently started exploring the Why Choose genre and am hooked. (pun intended)I liked each of the men equally, which is hard to achieve. Some are a bit softer, and others are razor-sharp, but I loved them all the same. Winnie can sometimes be a bit over the top, but I still enjoyed her POV. She is a self-aware queen; I have to give her that. It's a quick read which is both a good and bad thing. I wanted MORE, but that is just a testament to the writing. I immediately downloaded the next book in the series.

A Dark Why-Choose on the mysterious island of Neverland.
This was really more of a 3 1/2 star for me, but I still liked the book well enough to continue to the next book. Lately I've read a lot of really long books with very light spice and heavy prose. I just needed something easy and spicy to cleanse my palate a little, and this did the trick just fine.Every Darling woman, after her 18th birthday, suddenly disappears for lengths of time but no one knows where. When they return however, their minds are destroyed and they slowly devolve into paranoia and insanity. Winnie Darling, just freshly 18, is terrified of losing her mind, but she can't bring herself to believe the crazy stories her mother tells her about Peter Pan and Neverland. That is until he finally comes to take her.Peter Pan and his lost boys are not the cute young boys from her fairy tales. They are grown savage men who murder without a second thought, and now she is their prisoner. So why is she oddly aroused by this turn of events? And how can she avoid the same fate as all of her ancestors before her? Perhaps with faith, trust and a little seduction. This is a Dark Why-Choose Fantasy, so this may not be for everyone, but this is definitely my type of genre. It's very short and there isn't a ton of detail, but like I said, I wanted an easy read with plenty of smut and that's what I got. I'm more than likely going to continue reading the series to see what kind of trouble Winnie and the Lost Boys continue to get into.

Great Peter Pan Retelling
Type: Dark FantasyEase of read: 5/5Spice: 3/5Age range: NAPeter Pan RetellingWhen a Darling turns 18 she is taken by Peter Pan to Neverland and comes back broken. Her mind put threw a blender, she’s never the same. Winnie’s mother has tried to warn her of the dangers that are coming in her future but she’s just a crazy woman, right? That’s what she had to look forward to as she gets older, she’ll go crazy like her mother and her mother’s mother…When she finally turns 18 she finds a stranger in her home, if you can call it a home. She’s kidnapped and wakes up in a new land, full of Lost Boys. Can she undercover the reason why she’s here, does she stay and help or run? When she finds answers, they are not what they appear. This is a very twisted adult retelling of Peter Pan. It is a series and does end with questions unanswered about the future of Neverland, however, some secrets are uncovered with a little pixie dust.Tropes:- Dark Fantasy- Magic- Repeat History- Touch her and die- Enemies to Lovers- Bat boys- Close proximity- FMC and multiple MCs

Did they forget the part with the plot?
I was excited about this book. Love a dark retelling of Peter Pan, love a bit of smut love a morally grey MC... What could go wrong?Except I think they sent me the draft with all the p0rn and forgot to put the plot in the book...Seriously, so much possibility for character development, exploring trauma and healing through it, exploring fantasy hero concepts. But no, all we got is a self-proclaimed w*0*e character with zero logic to her actuons, Peter Pan who is not too sure whether he wants to be morally grey or is just tired of existing in a pointless underdeveloped universe, and an overall plot that borders a wattpad fanfic written by a 13 year old. But, this book has given me something that many haven't been able to. It's given me hope. Hope that if an author can publish this writing and call it a book, and be adored by fans and charge an unreasonable sum of money for a literal fanfic... then I should stop worrying and holding myself to a high standard and actually publish my writing. It seems like today one can sell anything, if the proportion of smut to plot is over 25%

A bit disappointing
Cool concept but there isnt enough detail, she gets there she has sex with each of them then she finds them the important information bish bash bosh.... its too easy.Feels like there were so many opportunities for subplots or more detail where the world of the book could have been fleshed out but it was just skimmed over. There wasnt any tension it was just straight into sex.I wish it had more to it because the characters and concept were so interesting.

Dark and spicy but needed to be longer
I have loved retellings ever since I read Lost Boy by Christina Henry, which told the story of Hook, and explored the concept that Pan wasn't as good as was made out in the original story. The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe also explores a darker side of Pan and the consequences of Tinkerbell's jealousy. This short novella (192 pages) is extremely dark and portays Pan and the Lost Boys as grown men with a dangerous streak. The Darling of the story is Wendy's great, great, grandaughter, Winnie, and she also isn't the sweet young girl from the original tale. This book is extremely spicy and has sexual scenes that could be described as protraying dubious consent, although Winnie is in no way an unwilling participant. My problem with this book is that it was simply too short and so the spicy scenes seemed to be rushed into and there purely for gratification. In truth the intent was to bond Pan and the boys to Winnie to explain why they stepped in at a point when she was in a dangerous predicament, albeit one they had put her in. However, the scenes were so sudden that the relationships between them did not feel deep enough. I feel that there was a lot of potential for this book to be a longer novel, exploring the complexities of Pan's situation and the relationships between all of the characters. I enjoyed what I read but I feel like I have had something dangled in front of me that I want more of. There is a second book to this series.I recommend giving this book a shot if you love enemies to lovers, morally grey characters and don't mind a bit of dark spice.

So I was very happy when I found the bookish box’s darkly page ( @darklybybookishbox ), they recommended hot, spicy and dark books, (thirsty Thursday is my favourite day of the week😉) and The Never King is a recommendation I found in their page. Go check them out if you want more dark recs, or stay here I’m more than happy to help you out😉Let me tell you this was every bit as dark and gritty as they promised. It’s the first in a trilogy of Peter Pan retellings where Hook was never the villain and Winnie Darling is very lucky to have 4 tall, tattooed, morally gray (probably nearer black) men. Also they literally rip a guys heart out for touching her (Pips kind of men🥵😉).I really loved this book, I was kept in suspense the whole way through, and immediately started the sequel, which I have also finished, the final instalment of the trilogy releases in September 2022 and I plan to be there ready and waiting🤩I told one of my bookclubs I was reading a spicy Peter Pan retelling, I’ve never been asked for the title of a book so fast in my life😂For lovers of:- RH (yes babes it’s okay to enjoy RH🥰)- Dark fairytale retellings- Enemies to lovers- Morally grey men- Kidnapping to lovers- 4 x tall, tattooed, dark & sexy men- Touch her and I’ll rip your heart out🤷♀️- Individual and group spice🥵

Underdeveloped..
This is a dark retelling of Peter Pan. It follows Winnie, Pan and the lost boys. I was very excited by the premise of this book. The idea Is great but it lacked follow through. There isn't much plot at all, after 15% I quickly realised this and had to quickly change my expectations. Everything seemed underdeveloped. The characters had no depth, where there was such a great opportunity to delve into their lives. I really didn't like anyone but Vane and that was as he was shrouded in more mystery and is the only one that had some slight development. I found myself rather bored at times but pushed through as it was so short. It was a meh book didn't completely hate it and had so much potential but I also would not reread it or be shouting to recommend.
