Book is great. I purchased a used book and you get what you pay for. It's really worn, pages are discolored and spine of book is broke. It's readable though and shipping wasn't fast but it was slow either. Happy with purchase

It's a very good book and she's an amazing, very bright woman who grew up very poor, but rich with her family/music and dreams. An amazing child who knew what she wanted and believed she could get it. A lot of that came from her Mother, but the work ethic also from her Father. She writes well and tells it all as she would talk. Glad I bought and read.

This was a great book with so much feeling behind it. If you get the chance to listen to the audio version, even though it is slightly abridged, Dolly's reading is amazing and so emotional. I have never listened to an audio book that had the reader actually having to slow down the reading because she was crying. Just beautiful.

I read this as part of my book club. We were to pick an autobiography of a musician or band. Great book about how Dolly got her start. Reading about her childhood really makes you appreciate what all she has accomplished. She is a positive person and it's always good to hear from someone with a good outlook on life. You don't get a lot of the dirt, but who needs it? I hope she writes more down the road about how the rest of her life is going since this book was published.

This has to be one of my most favourite books in the whole wide world! The first time I read it, it was loaned to me. This time, I bought the book for myself. What a story, what a life! Seriously!Growing up ... the 4th of 12 children, extremely poor but unaware of that. Born in a one room cabin on the banks of the Little Pigeon River in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. Digging holes to China, growing ponies, suckling sow, turpentine and sewing needle are just a small sample of things happening.Dolly tells her story, always full of wonder, laughter and grace. A real delight to read.
