I would not recommend that . Coloring book paper is usually thin and not conducive towards using these rich gel like crayons . Thick watercolor paper works great with them .

Q: How do these compare to tempura paint sticks?

Hi, I haven't used tempura paint sticks but what I can tell you is that I love my Kingart Gel sticks and use them all the time. The colors are vibrant and the metallic colors look amazing. The best part is that a little goes a long ways. I use mine to add background in my coloring books and I water down the colors some using watercolor paint brushes.
