The ultimate test of the battery based vacuum cleaner is the 1) suction power, 2) battery life, 3) charge time and 4) serviceability. 1) The suction power maybe just bit less than the Dyson V6. But, in use the vacuum cleaner has more than enough vacuum for household use. 2) The one charge lasts about 20-30 minutes of off and on run time. The quoted duration is 15 minutes at 100 duty cycle. But, I never had the vacuum on continuously, and I don't think most people would use it that way. I use if mostly to pickup bits of dirt and lints from both wood floor as well as carpeted floor. I have full powered central vacuum which I use when I am in need of cleaning the whole house. So, this is used to do mostly spot cleaning, in between the major battle with the dirt kinds. 3) The included 2.0Ah battery is typically charged to full within about 20 minutes. That is much much quicker than most battery based vacuum cleaners out there. This is definite plus for the Makita. 4) Serviceability. The battery can be purchased separately. I purchased two 4.0Ah battery for Makita. The included charger can charge 4Ah battery. And the battery can be used in any of the Makita's 18V power tools. So, if you have Makita power tool(s), then you can use these batteries on this vacuum. In some other vacuum cleaners, once the battery life wanes, you have no choice but to purchase another (such as Dyson). This external battery is the way to go. So far, I love this vacuum, it is every-ready minutemen ready to bring spotless cleaning at the finger tip. The vacuum is light and useful tool. Compare to other vacuums that I had from Crafsman, Black & Decker, and others, this is definite keeper, the best of the breed.

This vacuum works great. Really good suction, lightweight, and charges fast. Easy to open and close canister to dispose of trash as well.

This is a great little vacuum. I work at a veterinary hospital and we purchased one for hair and toe nail clippings that accumulate all day long. It’s quick and does a great job. I would not recommend it for industrial type use ie: drywall dust, anything damp, etc. the filter will have to be discarded if you use it for that purpose. It also can’t be abused. Get the wall hanger for it because if you stand it up propped against a wall and it crashes to the floor it’s not going to last long. We got the cyclonic attachment because with lots of different folks using it hastily, the filter basket and filter paper cup kept getting pitched accidentally. Now it’s way easier to use and emptying it does not require it to be taken apart. The cup on the cyclonic device just pops off and no filter loss! BTW, the cyclonic device makes the wand about 4 inches longer so better for taller folks. It works well on pet hair and cat litter as there is no roller bar for hair to get tangled around and fling litter all over. I liked it so well I bought one for my house. My only caution is that you should clean it and care for it regularly and the tubes will not take abuse or pressure. It seems pricey for what it is, and I would love to get one at a better price but there just aren’t many cordless vacs with no roller bar feature. I would agree with others that it doesn’t do well on carpet other than very short pile.

I love tools powered by rechargeable batteries and have loved my grass trimmer, blower and power drill. So when I saw this vacuum cleaner and decent reviews AND reasonable price, I went for it and now I have two!! My home has never been so clean. If you have time to do the whole house, you can, but often, just a couple of rooms is all you have time for. It makes vacuuming quick, easy and so convenient. It's plenty powerful and the reach of the nozzle is fantastic. Easy to get under beds and sofas and tight corners. Cleaning the filter is a cinch. I bought a larger battery just as a back up but I have never really lost the charge. This is so great that I thought my daughter might find it useful for her suite at college. She's never been a neatnik but it's so light, convenient and quick and easy that she and one of her roommates sent me a cute picture of them with the vacuum cleaner. Too bad she won't let me post it!! 10/29/18 - a bit disappointed with the cracking of the blue/neck part which connects the rod. The very few poor reviews seem to experience the same problem. Some recommend a hose clamp and report great success. What style and size etc.? I tried duct tape and it works ok but the nozzle gets lose. It should be stronger with perhaps a latch to secure it while it has the hose/rod attachment. I am probably too aggressive with it and I am certainly vacuuming more than I ever did. It is still a GREAT little vacuum. It just needs to physically last for longer than a few months. But the design and the power and the convenience so far can't be beat. The physical body needs to stand up to the rest of it.

I love this vacuum! It works well on hard floors and on rugs (make sure you are stepping on the rug or it'll try to suck it up lol). I was afraid I was going to have to buy a whole bunch of filters but I have found the original filter has lasted quite a long time with proper care and cleaning. It is lightweight, it can take a beating, and it takes no time at all for the battery to charge. This vacuum is a godsend for cat hair. It is easy to store because it is so slender and you can throw it on a hook in a closet very easily. I don't find it to be any noisier than any other traditional vacuum and the battery lasts a very long time before needing to be charged.

design flaw the housing on the canister has tiny hooks that break very easily and doesn’t stay together.. vacuum works great but Doesn’t hold together

The suction is not that great. Plus you need to always hold on the switch. I regret buying this thing.
