Why is there a back wall missing?

I just assumed it was for the kids to put their arms through and access the rooms from a different area, helps with 2 kids playing on 1 house, same for the hole in the roof top

Idk about the other house, but this house is sturdy, and was very simple to put together took me less than an hour I think (it was last year but I remember it being super quick).
