If you do this on curly hair will you get straight hair as the outcome and would it damage or loosen curls?

My niece and sister have curly hair, you'd need to straighten your hair with a heated product to get a straight haired look. My sister just dries her hair with a hairdryer and scrunches her curls. Hope this helps.
