Must read
This is a great book for understanding the basics of our cycles and learning how hormones work, how to exercise and eat for each cycle, and just better understand what’s going on within the female body. Easy to read and easy sections.

Blame everything on the patriarchy
This book is brilliant- sort of; but takes every opportunity to complain about the patriarchy and cis straight white guys… how about us women just stick to talking about women. In this day and age, women can be doctors and do all the studies… can we stop blaming patriarchy. I get it. The world was made by patriarchy, but come on. Stick to the topic and this book would have been unbelievable, ground breaking, and would attract all genders. There is so much great information. You really muddied it up and made it hard to get through with all the complaining.

A GEM
Like Amy’s first book, How to Grow a Baby, this book is a gem. It’s a great primer on menstrual cycles that everyone (EVERYONE!) needs to read. Shoot, they should use this in schools. Gift this to a young person experiencing menarche or a postpartum mumma. Get one for yourself. Put it out on your coffee table. Everyone needs to know these valuable lessons about the science and culture of the menstrual cycle.

Educational AND delicious.
Before I got pregnant, there was so much I didn't know. I didn't even know how much I didn't know until I was forced to learn though direct experience. Cycles would have been so helpful if I'd had it back then! But even now I have come to realize how much I take for granted. When menopause comes a knocking, I'll be much more prepared than I was for motherhood, or even puberty. One thing I really love about this book is that it's not just informative, it's also a guide for good living. I've already cooked a few of the recipes in here and I can tell you they nourish the soul and the body. Highly recommend for anyone, but especially women learning to live in changing bodies.

Modern knowledge of ancient cycles
Cycles by Amy Hammer is kind of the perfect book. Equal parts informative and beautiful, it features incredible graphics, diagrams and loads of good science. This book is a relevant and modern approach to understanding our bodies.
