DISCLAIMER- If you saw the movie and you haven't played the game, you have been wrongfully informed of the Max Payne world! The movie was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE, and did not do the game ONE BIT OF JUSTICE. Yeah, there was slow motion, drugs, shotguns and guys in SWAT gear, but that's pretty much it... And as much as I love Mila Kunis, she and the rest of the cast (Sorry MarkyMark) were terrible representations of what is Max's world. The game series (ESPECIALLY #2) is one of the greatest I have ever played, filled with extremely dark comedy that make you laugh out loud, amazing action, suspenseful storylines, and all out Badassery.I bought this game because the second installment of the series is and will always be my favorite video game of all time. I wanted to take a look at the game's roots and see how the previous one matched up. The biggest changes between the two are an improved script/darker and more comedic storyline in #2, and some better voice acting. Other than that, the gameplay is the same, most of the same weapons are used, and the same AMAZING styles of combat are used. Seriously, the Max Payne Bullet Time feature is one of the coolest features I have had the pleasure of using in video games. There is nothing like the rush of the perfectly executed, awesome movie-like shoot-while-diving type encounter, and Max Payne has the patent on it.I would definitely recommend this game to people who enjoy the "Noire" genre and an action game with a good storyline. I would, however, recommend the sequel more highly, just because it is one of the greatest things to ever be created by a video game company. The Max Payne series is amazing, you should definitely give it a try!

If you've never played Max Payne before and you love first-person shooters then you owe it to yourself to buy this game. It's cheap now, so there's no reason not to own it before it's out of print.Max Payne is a gritty story about a cop just doing his job. His wife an baby are murdered and it throws his world into turmil. As you can imagine, he wants revenge and he gets revenge many times over.What makes Max Payne unique is that it uses John Woo style moves and action. This was the first game to feature "bullet time", which allows the player to slow down the action and perform fancy dive and jump moves while blasting their weapon at a target in slo-mo. Couple this with a good story and vengeance and you have a winning game. You get sucked into the world of Max Payne and you can't help but love it.Max Payne is a huge game. By the end you'll have killed hundreds of people in your quest for the truth. It's plenty of action. Even though by today's standards the graphics look a little dated, it was top of the line for its time, with reflective floor surfaces and flying wall debris.Another cool thing about this game is you can use cheat codes and slow the action down to a stop, then move it forward one frame at a time. You see, with Max Payne the bullets are actually flying out of the gun at the target, so when you do super slow-mo you get to see the bullets in mid-air heading for their target. Using the time cheat you can watch bullets hit targets and debris flying all over the place in realistic fashion.Long story short, it's a must-own game for FPS fans. There's no multi-player, but who needs it when you have all the action you could want.Also check out Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. It continues the story, has updated graphics and the characters' mouths move when they talk. It takes Max Payne up another level. However, the game is somewhat shorter than the first installment. Get both of them today!

Graphics were the selling point on this game, beats the graphics in Nocturne, hands down. But the game is much more then a piece of candy. The game pulls you into the character and before you know it you're avenging your wife and child. The violence isn't really graphic but the game is still very adult themed. Just thought I'd point that out before I went in any further. The game itself is just a treat, the music, the action, the graphics, the sounds, the weapons the story, oh yes, the story is wonderful. It's nothing original, it's the man who had his wife and child kill and hunts down the sleaze who did it and finds out why. People who liked the Punisher comics will love this game because it has a similar vibe to it. Except Max is an undercover cop... oh and the cop thing is used. The corruption of his partners will make you wonder about those cops at the donut shop the next time you pull in ;). Splendid game, I give it thumbs up... One thing, last I checked there was no patch for gamepad support. I usually insist on gamepads but the aiming and moving really requires the keyboard and it drags you in further.
