I don't typically write reviews, but my experience with the SwitchBot Smart Lock has been so positive that I felt compelled to share. As a renter, I needed a smart lock solution that didn't require any modifications to the existing deadbolt or lock, and this product was perfect for that. Installation was a breeze, and the lock's Bluetooth connectivity made setting it up and connecting it to my phone fairly simple. It has worked flawlessly for the few months I've been using it, and I am genuinely impressed. After such a great experience with the Smart Lock, I decided to expand my SwitchBot ecosystem and purchased their Blind Tilt (motorized blinds controller), Hub 2, and smart light bulbs. These products have also proven to be high-quality, affordable, and easy to integrate with other smart home systems. SwitchBot is definitely a brand to watch, and I recommend their products to anyone looking to add convenience and smart functionality to their home!

Overall, this smart door lock does what it is supposed to do. Installation was straightforward, although longer than most IOT smart products due to having to fit it to the lock and the door. Other reviewers noted that the lock jammed for them. I can see how this happens, and I can suggest a workaround. The problem is that the latch turning part of the device is too loose for some doors, and it results in the device getting into a bad position with the latch. For my door, I used some tape to keep the mechanism from falling into a bad position. Switchbot ought to update the mechanism to clamp onto the latch or stick to it in some manner to prevent this from happening. Doing so would also fix another problem with this device that I describe next. This product has a feature that detects if your door is locked or unlocked. This feature works very well if you always use the Switchbot app to lock or unlock your door, or if you lock and unlock your door from the inside. However, if you lock or unlock your door from the outside (such as by using the key) then the switchbot will fail to properly detect if the door is locked or unlocked. This happens because of the gap between the turning mechanism and the door latch itself. That gap means that opening and closing the door with the key will not fully turn the mechanism of the Switchbot (it might go only 80% for instance) even though the actual door latch is fully turned. Switchbot could also solve this problem with software, but I think the better solution would be a tighter fit on the door latch as mentioned above.

Works to smarten up any rotary knob. Like this garage heater. Was worried about the strength of force because it takes a couple of lbs or more to put in the lowest (locked) setting. I'm a little too happy right now. let's see how it goes over time. Not ecstatic about atypical batteries but I will find a workaround.

Absolutely the worst customer service. They only speak to you via text in their app and will constantly close tickets on you so that you're not able to respond. I owned this product for less than 3 months and I ended up moving. The device tore the paint off my door which I was charged for because of the adhesive. I was ok with paying for the paint damage, but when I tried to reinstall the device on my new unit, the machine quit working. Same issue with the keypad, there's a flimsy piece of plastic that holds the metal part of the key pad and again, the adhesive is so strong that when you try to move it. It snaps the plastic piece rendering the whole thing inoperable. Major design flaws. Now the company refuses to do anything about it. Basically this item is not intended to move with you. Again customer service will just keep closing the ticket out on you and blame everything on you. I've been back and forth with customer service for over 3 months, sending photos and videos and it has gotten me nowhere. So seriously, buyer beware.

Excellent inexpensive option for automating The locking and unlocking of deadbolts. I like that it uses geofencing to automatically lock if I forget to lock it myself. Used with an assistant then can be automated to ensure it is locked when you go to bed, too.

On paper, this is a fantastic device. It wasn’t hard to install, though my first install didn’t work quite well, but eventually got it done. Setup is a breeze, but I have a lot of SwitchBot devices so maybe that’s why. I love the Alexa connectivity. I can tell Alexa to unlock my door after I verify whose at the door with my ring doorbell camera. This could be one of the most convenient smart locks out there, but the problem is that it jams a lot. I really don’t know why. Locking with the key is always smooth but most times, it jams while locking with the app. If this changes, I’ll update this review but until then, that’s my one problem with this device

I spent months deciding on this product (only for a new model to be released a couple weeks later with this to drop to half the price). Pros: It fits on the door. You can set a timer for how quickly it will lock/unlock etc. Super easy install and set up. Cons: Without the hub, you have to go into the app every single time to unlock the door instead of using the widget - which is available. It's frustrating as the app is super clunky and slow. To use the NFC, you need the keypad. To use the widget you need the hub. To basically get around using the app, you have to buy more stuff. Unfortunately, while I like many of the offerings from Switchbot, this feels like a money grab for basic functionality so I will not be buying into their eco system - as I'd really been eyeing their curtains and blinds. Another con, it doesn't stick. Within three months it fell off and peeled the paint off my door horribly. Which, for a rental unit, it would have been cheaper to just be charged for installing a typical smart lock. Ultimately, I was highly disappointed in what has turned into a small fortune for a clunky product.

Auto lock feature fail

The lock although easy enough to install, would not work properly locking and unlocking. It kept jamming up. It was promptly returned for a refund. I will never buy this lock again.
