So Far So Good
So far so good, it's only been a month since I purchased this book and I am trying to implement as much as I can into my daily regime. The one big surprise is how tasty the recipes are, mainly vegetarian in nature with a few fish and meat dishes thrown in for variety. When I started using the book I was in the middle of the very worst Gout attack of my life, two weeks of intense pain, hardly able to walk and impossible to drive to work. Indomethacin was hardly making a dent in the pain and swelling and Uloric at $400 for a months supply (with Insurance ) was a huge burden on my finances, and it wasn't helping.Using the recipes and implementing high alkaline water (Glaceau smart water carbonated) the pain has now almost gone. I can still feel a twinge or two and the swelling is still quite bad but it's a step in the right direction. I don't expect an instant cure and realize that if I truly want this crippling disease to subside I have to make some serious and permanent changes to my life style. I don't drink beer and was a very rare red meat eater so my assumption is that my issue is possibly genetic in nature. I hate taking prescribed medications and believe that with the help of good natural food, alkaline waters and some increased exercise I will at least have this under control soon?Update 03/14/2017Well it's been a little over a year since i started to actively change my life style. I have kept up with mainly vegetarian diet with the odd chicken or fish meal about once a week. I still drink lots "smart water" and have only had a few very mild gout symptoms. I hope in time the effects of my new diet will eradicate my gout issues completely.

HAD A LOT OF GOOD INFORMATION

Very informative
Gout attack out of the blue. This isn’t an overly preachy self help book like some are. Very informative and I certainly learned a lot . My diet needed an overhaul and this book helped tremendously

Good in places not in others
Some good info, some outdated info. I don't think eating any carbs is ok, he really bashes on low carb eating sayings it's idiotic. Well then the same could be said for high carb eating, if you characterize high carb as eating nothing but waffles and donuts. So the book loses stars for spreading misinformation about low carb eating (which actually involves lots of veggies limitted starches and no sugar and of course reasonable portions of meat). He says it's idiotic but in reality is much closer to his brand of healthy than he seems to realize. The author tends to go on rants that sound like talk radio nonsense. Inspite of all that his findings have encouraged me to find ways to eat less meat. Recipes are actually good if you looking for a way to avoid too much meat.

EATING
I BOUGHT THIS BOOK AND SINCE I'M TRAVELING TO WASHINGTON STATE IN OCTOBER TO SEE MY SISTER SHE WANTED COPIES OF THE RECIPES SO WE CAN MAKE THINGS TOGETHER.

Poorly written
I bought this book based on the mostly rave reviews. I should have paid more attention to the one star review. It was so poorly written that neither my husband not I had the patience to wade through it. There is no title page so we don't know who the author is or his credentials for writing such a book. I wanted the book as much for the gout discussion as the recipes, so this was useless for my purposes.

Too many recipes!
Too many recipes...not interested in that. They took up at least half of book. Wish I had known. Also, book should have included a very comprehensive list of foods good/bad for gout, really detailed with name brands. Wouldn't buy again.
