My sources would tell me yes, but I am not the expert on this product. I could tell you that I had my essential oils on the other day, and it did detect the air and rated it higher is being polluted.

Thanks for your question. 
This Air Quality Monitor measures Particulate Matter that is between 0.3µm and 2.5µm in diameter. Particulate matter (PM 2.5) is a mixture of dust particles, dirt and droplets suspended in the air. Particulate matter (PM 2.5) can be directly emitted from wind-blown dust, mold spores, pollen and wildfires.  Particulate matter (PM 2.5) found indoors may include particles that have migrated from outdoor sources like pollen or dirt and have originated from indoor sources like cooking, dusting, cooking, pet dander, vacuuming, burning candles, use of fireplaces or smoking.

What's the difference between the basic version and the updated version?

Both the basic version and the updated version have the functions of detecting PM2.5 index, temperature, humidity and time. The updated version upgrades the appearance and internal chip according to customer feedback. Compared with the basic version, the detection accuracy of the updated version is improved and the USB interface is more stable.
