I think that before buying this, people should understand a few things about Japanese dagashi. Dagashi are “cheap” sweets or treats that even kids can buy for a few cents in Japan (usually sold for about 100 yen or just under $1 CAD). The items in the box are small, like the items kids would buy - they’re just a taste. My Japanese teacher loved seeing the items in my first dagashi box last year because they reminded her of her childhood. The amount of sugar in these sweets will be more minimal than Westerners are used to - but the sweet items are definitely still tasty. You must also realize that some ingredients which Westerners would find uncommon are used to flavour some of these treats such as taro (a root vegetable), cabbage, melon and fish. This is my second dagashi box and like the first one I purchased, there is a wee package of shredded grilled cod. There is also a package of rice crackers that are cabbage flavoured as well as melon flavoured cookies (described in Japanese as butter cake, not cookies, but cookies they are). In the end, what you are purchasing is a slice of culture very different from Western culture. This is what is called “Washyoku” or Japanese cuisine, rather than “Yōshyoku” or Western cuisine. Enjoy the flavours that we see as wacky and be surprised at the stuff that you actually like. NB: I did NOT like the grilled cod the first time around and will be gifting that to someone who is Japanese…

La boîte ne vaut pas du tout le prix qu’il coûte. Tout les choses salés sont immangeable et dégoûtant. Seulement les choses sucrés sont mangeable. Cela vaudrais seulement 10$ à mon avis. Plus jamais je n’achèterai des produits de ce genre. Très déçu

I don’t think you could get this amount of Japanese snacks cheaper anywhere else. It was definitely worth trying.

I was actually disappointed and would not buy this again. The box was about half the size of what I was expecting and the treats were not that good. The kids enjoyed the novelty, but it was an expensive disappointment.
