I bought a new house and noticed a BUNCH of mole tracks in my lawn. I tried EVERYTHING you can think of for immediate results (castor oil/dish soap, vinegar, cayenne pepper, poison pellets, poison worms, traps, etc) but those little critters just wouldn't quit. I decided to buy this Milky Spore Grub Killer to hopefully help clear my lawn of moles for years to come and this is my review after using it last year. The price wasn't ideal, but I was willing to try whatever I could. The pellets were easy to spread and the bag came with enough to cover my large lawn. There was no overwhelming smell or damage to my grass after spreading. The next year, there were no mole tracks! I am thinking my lawn was extra grubby since our house attracted so many woodland critters that I was starting to wonder if I'm a Disney princess (I mean other lawns would be clear and I'd have a gaggle of rabbits, birds, squirrels, moles, you name it). I really think that this product helped for my mole problem and now I've added grub killer to my lawn maintenance routine. I would definitely recommend this based on my own personal experience. I had my doubts that this organic solution would work, but I felt I had nothing to lose. So I applied it for two years straight: spring, summer and fall - 2023 and 2024. This year the summer of 2025 no japanese beetles. Truth. I highly recommend it if your garden suffers from the invasion every summer. It really works.

Hopelessly jammed up my Scott’s Drop spreader . I switched it over to my Scott’s cyclone spreader and it spread fast , really fast. Not sure if it will work . I have put it on twice so far , once in March , once in early May . Digging in the garden I have seen a few small grubs but they still appear to be dormant . I will do another treatment in late June and one in September. I will update the review once I ascertain if it helps rid my lawn and garden of grubs . I have a small 1/4 acre lot , even at that size this is an expensive gamble . I am hoping it works as I do not like putting down insecticides. If it actually works it will save time, money and the environment. Update, there were zero grub problems this year, used no insecticide. Will see if it keeps working next year. Update I have used zero pesticides on the lawn and the grubs are gone . Been almost 2 years. Now 3 years with no grubs

I am very confused on how I should rate this product... See this is supposed to be the powdered form of Milky Spore, only I was sent the granular twice! :P BUT as far as the powdered form goes - it's great! A pain, but once you get started it gets done. Lol! You have to put a tsp every 4 feet. It's suggested you get the dispenser, it makes the job easier, but if you would rather not - there are instructions on YouTube on how to use a coffee can, and mop handle along with a drill bit, and zip ties to make your own should you be So inclined. Milky Spore has been in use since the 1920's, the cardboard applicator has not- meaning there's more than one way to get it applied appropriately. We have 73 rose bushes, crepe myrtles, and tons of flowers, trees, bushes, etc over 3 acres. Nobody has cleared and planted this property in decades, so we are currently battling Japanese Beetles. Milky Spore is the long game. It only affects the Japanese Beetle, no other insect. It will not harm anything including water, honey bees, pets, children etc. It will last 10-25 yrs in your soil. It spreads like the plague with each Japanese Beetle grub that eats it incubating, and creating more milky Spore for other grubs to ingest and make another billion milky spores. You have to mow first, or pull your mulch to the side in the spots to be applied. A string extending 4 feet from your dispenser tied to a weight will help you measure out your next 4 feet in a checkerboard pattern. That's the powdered- The granular you use a seed spreader. Instructions are on the bag for the most popular seed spreaders. Both have to be watered in so they do not get blown away by the wind, or tracked away on feet/ tires/fur. Apply either right before the rain, or hose down. To make it easy - Apply Memorial Day Weekend, 4th of July, and Labor Day for 2 yrs. We absolutely DO recommend Milky Spore for killing Japanese Beetle Grubs! AND We hope our review is helpful!

We moved to a housing development that was brand new on recently cleared forest land and it was loaded with all kind of bugs including japanese beetles which come from grubs. Moles and other burrowing rodents feast on the grubs and those that live turn into japanese beetles which will ruin your trees and bushes, and create more grubs. I tried the milky spore powder and it was messy and I didn't do it properly because I saw only a small difference. I hunkered down the next season and got the milky spore pellets and put them in my lawn, flower beds, tree rings, and raised garden beds. I used a lawn spreader to do the lawn and a hand spreader to do the flower beds, garden beds and tree rings. I applied it in November, and again in March. That spring and summer I literally had no grubs, and no beetles. The moles and beetles were in my neighbors yards, but not in mine. That October, I did one more spreading. That has kept my yard mole, and beetle free. Ladybugs, regular pesticides, and mole traps didn't work, but the milky spore pellets worked like a charm. My neighbor asked me what I did and I sent the info to the 15 other owners and within a year and a half, our entire neighborhood was rid of beetles, grubs, and moles. Nothing works like this product and it is so easier to use.

Let me start by saying " I hate grubs". 2 years ago all of a sudden my back yard was infested with grubs and yes the grubs did kill a large section of my back yard but the worst part was all the skunks and raccoons that started appearing. I soon discovered that raccoons will completely destroy your yard looking for these grubs. My yard looked like a rototiller and a plow went thru it with total devastation. I have always used Grub-X or something similar on my other yards but now I have a well and so do all my neighbors so I though I would try Milky Spore. SO here is the good and the bad about this product. The good is It does work as advertised but it doesn't eliminate grubs it doesn't kill all the grubs but it does reduce the majority of the grubs. The bad is 2 fold the price! this stuff fluctuates from $72 per bag to $42 per bag for a 20 lb bag of granules which is what I have been using. It will take multiple applications to get control of these devil grubs. I have done 2 complete applications to my entire yard and now I spot apply to any areas that start to turn brown or look like grub activity just to be safe. I never want to go back to where I was a couple years ago so I always have some on hand. Grub-X and the like will give better faster results but Milky Spore only affects the grubs and won't kill you your pets or your neighbors and doesn't pollute the ground water.

This product is difficult to review because a treatment cycle takes several years. To properly evaluate its impact on the beetle population, I'd have to have a "control yard" next door where I did not apply the product. I don't have that. So, if I see a decline in beetle and grub activity, it could be because of the long and snow-rich winter, the beetle traps, the landscaper applying grub control, or, yes, because of the milky spore. At the end of the day, we don't want our lawn to die and will do everything we can to prevent that from happening. How much of part the milky spore plays in this battle is anyone's guess. I had the powder last year and I got the granular stuff this year. The powder application with the dispenser tube was a lot more work and I do recommend the granular form - it goes down much quicker with the rotary spreader. The spreader settings for Scotts rotary spreaders are not provided on the package. I guessed that, too. 2016 was the 3rd year of application in my yard. I used beetle traps again as well, and I had very few Japanese beetles in the traps this year and no grub-related lawn damage. I did not use any chemicals on the lawn this year, and it appears that my strategy of fighting the beetles on all fronts is successful.

It works. It's a powder that must be applied in calm weather conditions and then watered into the ground. It must be applied directly to the soil. There is a separate tube that you can order to make the application process easier.
