It's thick and when coated with a sauce, becomes slurpy. I was going to make mac and cheese this week but received this case of 12 pounds of pasta so decided to make a sauce instead and hold off on the mac and cheese until next week. This is a great decision because I discovered that since this holds a sauce so well, it's going to be used in a cheesy baked dish which will delight many. Truth be told, I purchased this pasta because of its appearance, not because I'd eaten it before or had a specific recipe in mind. After preparing the first pound which makes a lot, I have ideas like adding shellfish on top of a tomato-based sauce, the aforementioned pasta and cheese, a simple homemade pesto coating, just to mention a few. I cooked this for 11 minutes and found that to be a good time for enjoying freshly cooked as well as when reheated. Picky kids who only want pasta, butter, and cheese will likely really enjoy the curly, thick spaghetti-like pasta that they can twirl on a fork and get a really full mouthful to fill their belly. The creative souls can even braid it for fun if it's been coated with oil first (yes, I tried) and then it really is fun to eat. This pasta definitely needs something tasty to bring out its purpose as a vehicle for sauce. Eating it on its own is not my personal cup of tea, but you may like that. You always see Fusilli on the store shelves, but if you're Italian than you know Fusilli is long and curly, not short, fat, or twisted into some crazy shape. I loved the taste of this pasta, and Ferrara has been in business a long time, since 1892, so they know what they are doing. Follow the directions on how to cook it because it takes a little longer than regular pasta to cook.
