No drilling of any kind is required. The thing operates, essentially, like a big C-Clamp, you assemble it first, slide it over the window ledge and then adjust it until it's tight against the building on both sides. Plastic adjusting cams let you fine-tune the tightness, and protect the walls. Note that the *minimum* width of your air conditioner has to be 18 inches for this thing work. I mention this because I had a casement/slider (vertical) air conditioner, 15 inches wide, at it was just an inch too narrow to fit. 16 inches would have been edge-to-edge, but still unstable, so I add an inch to either side and say 18 inches is the minimum.Any any rate, an excellent product, easy to assemble, easy to use, a complete joy. This is a 12k and weighs 80lbs.No worries unit is sound.Kinda overpriced for what it is but still cheaperthan others that do not require mounting hardware in yourwindow frames.Summer is short in vt and winters long.Didn’t want holes in the aluminum trim.They also supply a nice piece of foam rubber to fill gaps.More than happy with my purchase.5/26/2020I’m now using two of these.The one from last year is still like new and again very sound.No drilling easy to use.We have a 8k upstairs it was kinda using the slider to hold it in.I’m using the second one on it.I did get some 2”x2” foam makes filling holes easy.Pleased with my purchase so far.06/2021Still using both of the them and both are still like new! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A pain to assemble! *by G***N on Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2020* This was my only option because I rent.You'd think this thing would be easy to assemble looking at it. Holy cow it was ridiculous!! I had to do it before I could put it on the window because the tubes were so snug that they had to be smashed with a heavy shoe while holding it against the floor to get it to advance. Then I had to use a tool to depress the locking button because one would not depress with finger weight.When I finally got it together to put it on the window I had to really struggle to get it in place because it was already together. Then it wasn't tight enough so I had to use a heavy piece of wood to advance it one more notch while holding it in place with my body.It would have rocked due to the design of my window but I grabbed a piece of scrap wood to level it. You also should buy extra gaskets or insulation for the large gap at the bottom between the window and the frame.After all of my struggles the AC went in rock solid, sturdy and had no vibration. After struggling the previous two years and the AC falling after crushing my hand on the way down.
