Short of a prescription medication, nothing I’ve found compares to the effectiveness of Abreva.I’ve been getting cold sores on my lips since childhood. Fortunately, they’re relatively infrequent—usually only three to five times per year—but before I discovered this product, I’d just let them run their course. That was miserable. What would start as a tiny, barely noticeable itchy bump would often turn into a large, painful, bright red sore on my lip. Not only was it uncomfortable, but it also made me self-conscious about my appearance.Years ago, I picked up a tube of Abreva at my local drugstore, and I’ve kept it on hand ever since. It significantly reduces the symptoms and, more importantly, helps the cold sore clear up much faster. These days I always have multiple tubes—one in my medicine cabinet at home and another in my travel toiletry bag. I never want to be caught without it.The key, at least in my experience, is to start using it immediately. I can usually tell a cold sore is coming when I feel a small hard bump on the edge of my lip accompanied by a slight itch. The moment I notice it, I start applying Abreva and keep the tube close by so I can reapply after eating, drinking, or anything else that might remove it.When I catch it early and stay consistent with the applications, the cold sore never becomes the large, angry, painful sore it would otherwise become. It stays small, causes minimal discomfort, and is usually gone within a few days.There’s simply no reason to let a cold sore get out of control. At the first sign of one, get ahead of it with Abreva. For me, it has made a huge difference.

I suddenly developed cheilitis for the first time during the seasonal weather change, and it was rough.My lips were extremely dry, itchy, and even had small fluid-filled blisters—so yes, it was painful.After asking around and doing some research, I kept hearing about this product—so I gave it a try.whenever I applied this, it felt cooling with a slight sting, and the itchiness calmed down a lot.For 12 days straight(See photos), I applied a thin layer 4–5 times a day: after brushing my teeth in the morning, after lunch, after dinner, and right before bed.Now it's almost completely healed, and whenever I feel that familiar itch coming back—usually when I'm tired—I put a tiny bit on and it settles right down.The tube is very small, but you barely need any per use, so it seems like it will last a good while.It doesn’t work instantly, but the steady improvement is undeniable. I definitely recommend it.

Keep in mind, this is strictly for pain relief and also to relieve the dryness and stiffness aspect of cold sores. Basically when your lip or area around it is feeling super stiff and chapped, it will make the skin supple again. It'll also relieve any tingles or burning. But the actual Abreva cold sore treatment (Docosanol Cream) is what works to actually treat/get rid of the sores themselves. So you need both. I usually place a thin layer of this stuff first, followed by the Abreva cream, allow it to dry (about 30 to 45 minutes) then add a couple cold sore patches to the treated areas to further protect while it heals. I also do red light treatments once in the mornings and once in the evenings, 5 minutes at a time each time.If you wanted to, you could also use just this and then the cold sore patches too. It depends on how effective it is for you. The patches themselves have healing formula in them too. So if you don't like the cream, that is an option. I've found that using the cream plus the patches worked better for me, tho. Ultimately you have to find what works for you. But this tube is specifically for pain relief only, it will not actually treat the sores, so you will need a second form of medicine, whether prescribed or over the counter, to treat the problem itself.So it works well for what it was meant for. Hopefully after this episode, won't need it again for a long time. This was my first episode after nearly 2yrs of not having any. It sucked, but I got through it. Good luck!

This product may be effective but to have a dab to use for 2 or 3 days is not cost effective. It was a shock tosee how tiny the tube was and that it cost almost $30. I will use another brand. So disappointed! Had Iinvestigated what .07 ounces looks like, I would not have ordered it. My astonishment was based on how expensivea tiny tube cost. Outrageous! Save money. Buy another brand.

Works great

This is a great product and I'm so glad it can be purchased on Amazon! I might have only gotten 1, but the price for getting two convinced me that I needed two. This is better anyway as you can put them in two different rooms to remind yourself to use when needed. It is a very effective product and a little goes a long way.

It was promised to remove the cold sore in 2.5 days which didn’t happen even 2 weeks

Stellar product. Nothing comes even close. Suppress the outbreak on day 1, dry it out in next 2 days and completely get rid of it in a week
