it holds the firepit.. looks like a puzzle
It holds the fire pit in place..Sitting on a concrete slab the heat from the pit is not an issue at least not on the concrete. I think it does what it is supposed to. A little sketchy to and flimzy to put together. One-piece design would have been better

Missing parts poor customer service
Pretty simple device but somehow it was shipped (as a gift unfortunately) and was missing part of the stand. I used the amazon "contact seller" feature and they responded in a couple of days. Duraflame said they didn't make or sell it (despite using their name) so they couldn't help....sad. They give me contact for manufacturer who in line with other poor service said they couldn't help because they didn't sell it. Wonder how we got any pieces in the first place !! Amazon was helpful eventually with refund since as a gift it was well past "refund" window.
