Best wet food
I have to take the time to review this product because after researching and trying different foods for our English Cream Golden Retriever, we finally got it right!!Our Golden is almost 2 years old and we have tried everything to get her to actually look forward to her meals. So, I took a chance on Merrick Backcountry grain free wet dog food, with real beef. We mix half a can with her Merrick dry food and she loves it. She actually whines in the morning waiting for her breakfast. She seems happier, more energetic, and we know she’s getting the nutrients she needs.Happy in Camarillo, CA

Damaged cans almost every time.
Almost every can always has dents of various sizes in them. The boxes they’re shipped in are in perfect condition, which tells me they were already damaged when they were packed and shipped. My dog loves the food and even though she has food allergies and is supposed to be on special food, this doesn’t make her itch at all. If you are going to continue to send me damaged cans, then you should also give me a discount.

Not a fan of the new recipe
Merrick recently changed the recipe for just about all of its canned dog food products. Previously, the cans had been labeled as being for all life stages, but now they are only for maintenance. The minerals listed in the ingredients are no longer chelated, which made them easier for dogs to absorb. Chelated minerals are generally associated with a higher quality dog food, which I suppose Merrick no longer is. For the back country beef, the old ingredients list was as follows: Deboned beef, beef broth, beef liver, dried egg product, dried yeast culture, calcium carbonate, potassium chloride, sodium phosphate, agar-agar, flaxseed, salt, guar gum, vitamins (vitamin E supplement, vitamin B12 supplement, d-calcium pantothenate, vitamin A supplement, niacin, vitamin D3 supplement, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, biotin, thiamine mononitrate), choline chloride, minerals (zinc amino acid complex, iron amino acid complex, manganese amino acid complex, copper amino acid complex, potassium iodide, cobalt glucoheptonate, sodium selenite), locust bean gum, xanthan gumWhereas the new ingredients are:Deboned Beef, Beef Broth, Beef Liver, Dried Egg Product, Natural Flavor, Salt, Locust Bean Gum, Potassium Chloride, Guar Gum, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Calcium Carbonate, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, Folic Acid, Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Biotin), Taurine, Minerals (Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Sodium Selenite). To be fair, my dog doesn't seem to mind the new recipe. But I do. The last time I put him on a diet with non-chelated minerals, he started having seizures. I put him back on a diet with chelated minerals, and the seizures stopped. It might have been a coincidence, and his particular breed is prone to epilepsy, but I prefer to switch dog food brands at this time.

Merrill limited ingredient dog food
This is one of the only dog foods that my picky eater likes. She also likes all of the flavors, which is unusual, but, welcomed! She doesn't get sick when she eats it and she has a sensitive tummy. I was so glad to find this. It's not cheap, but, not near as expensive as some of the "better" dog foods. Nutritious and she loves it. I can also get it delivered. What's not to like? :)

Smooth pate formula. Good for teeth missing dogs.
We have been buying Merrick for over 4 years now and through that time we have gone thru all of Merrick's canned food. Our dog is blind and has diabetes, thyroid and heart disease issues. He has lost many teeth now and the way he can eat is thru licking his food out of the bowl only. We found that the pate formula of this food is good for that. We heat it up and stir it and he gobbles it up. This is just like cranberry sauce in the type of consistence. There are problems with the level of food in the cans they are never 12.7 ounces but, we have stopped complaining and doing what's good for the dog in his late years now. I also recommend the Limited Ingredient Diet flavors of beef, turkey, lamb, and duck for the same type of smooth lickable food. Hope this helps.
