Mariner's Medallion Quilts: Creative No-Math Approach Blocks & Borders to Mix & Match Full-Size Compass Foundations

As yet, I haven't made anything from this book, but I fully intend to. It is well writen and easy to understand. When I find the time to work on this I expect to do so without problems. Enjoyed reading it.The company I bought from gave very good service and it was just as described.

This was my first paper piecing project. It turned out great. Excellent directions and so many great ideas/blocks to make a one of a kind treasure. Couldn't be happier with the outcome!

Mariner's Medallion Quilts by M'Liss Hawley is a great paper piecing book with a number of variations on the Mariner"s Compass. I like the varied examples for color choices and boarders. I would like a spiral binding so I could lay the book out flat.

All the quilts featured in this book are incredibly beautiful, but after looking at the instructions I think you need to be an experienced - and exceptionally patient - quilter to pull them off. If you like mariner's medallion patterns, you'll love this book, but if log cabin blocks are closer to your skill level pass on this one.

I wasn't clear on what the "no-math approach" was when I ordered it, but now I see the author has provided a foundation piecing guide for the Mariner's Compass design that you can photocopy or scan. That should make it fairly straightforward. My only complaint might be that I'm not crazy about some of the colour themes shown, but the instructions seem clear and it would be simple enough to make them your own. Overall, I really like the book.

It's an OK book but it did not challenge me. The mediallion is good, boarders and blocks very simple and it did not get me thinking of new possibilities. it would be good for a beginner project for someone new to compass quilts.
