Seems ideal, but can anyone that knows for sure tell me if this is good for reinstalling my brake caliper gaskets and seals in their cylinders?

This is assembly lube for transmissions. You DO NOT want this for brakes. Use brake grease . This stuff is to thick and not made for brakes.

I get the impression this is for auto transmissions, can this also be used in manual transmissions?

this is what i put my manual transmissions together with its extra sticky and holds the needle bearings in place in arizona in summer its too hot for other grease to hold them but this does the job ive used it for years great stuff

i was told to lube my valves when assembling my valvebody, is this suitable for lubing the valves/plugs in the vb?

I did the same when I assembled my valve body. No problems everything worked fine. Lubed up everything that moved for the initial start up.

I heard this product will make rubber swell, is that true?

This is the high tack version. Their product description reads "Needle bearings and hydraulic seals in place. Also for O-rings, seals, bearings, gaskets, sealing rings, bushings, thrust washers and much more".It is designed to dissolve into the transmission fluid or gear oil, so I doubt it's any more harmful to rubber than the transmission fluid itself.
