a very intriguing mystery
I love Jonathan Santlofers books - mysteries with engaging and unique characters - and with Mr. Santlofers drawings and art work scattered throughout the book. These drawing really add depth and interest to the book. The story would stand well on it's own - but the drawing make it magicalIn this story the serial killer leaves an unusual colored painting at each crime scene, the colors of the items in the painting are all wrong (orange skies, red bananas, etc,) .The homicidal artist is colorblind and is only able to see the world in shades of grey. The NYPD is stumped by the "clues", and they call in Kate as a consultant - Kate is an ex-policewoman who is now in art - and has her own art show. She left the police to marry Richard Rothstein, a wealthy lawyer. Kate is not interested in becoming involved in the case because she is happy with her life with her husband. There Richard is found murdered with one of the unusually colored paintings beside him, and the investigation turns personal for her.Mr. Santlofer also intersperses brief clips of art history in the story. I even learned about the Nazi's Deranged Artists exhibits back in 1937. Santlofer then brings us right into the killer's shoes ( a look into the mind of a madman), a technique I really appreciated. It gave the story that extra little something that made the whole read greatly entertaining.

Very Colorful
The authors knowledge of art and color was very, very extensive. I would recommend this book to others for reading.

"Color Blind" Spellbinding, Well Researched
To give you an idea of how "Color Blind" grabs you, I had trouble putting the Kindle down even when my grandson came to visit!A novel that combines a touch of recent art history with deep research into the mind of the criminally insane is a winner in my mind. This is Sandlofer's second novel. If he publishes nothing more, his reputation as a murder/thriller author will stand for a long time!

As an artist, I'm hooked!
I'm definitely ordering this, especially because of the lousy review by Publishers Weekly. I'm an artist and I love Santlofer's books. They're mini-classes on art techniques and art history, much more than a "glimmer." This is one author who does his research and who makes the reader think by teaching something new. Not to mention, the dark humor and politics involved in the art world. Thank you, Jonathan!

A little too much for me
Too much murder to be believable. And way too much art information for the average person. I did not find it a very interesting read.

Color Blind
The author, Jonathan Santlofer, is a master in this series of art related mystery and murders. Very intriguing and very suspenseful. This is the thinking persons read. He paints a very vivid picture of the events, and makes you feel part of the action.

OK Read
Keeps you on the edge. Didn't care for the languange. Guess I'm getting prudish in my older age.

"Color Blind' is the second of 3 Kate McKinnon Thrillers, ...
... composed by the renowned artist and writer Jonathan Santlofer. And it's really not Your normal garden-variety serial killer thriller, because this perpetrator sees himself as an artist - but he suffers of cerebral achromatopsia. He is color blind, but in his early years he could see the world like You and me. An 'accident' - You will learn about that at the end - robbed him of this precious sense that is absolutely necessary to make a god painter. So he searches desperately for a substitute - and can find it only by killing in tge most brutal and abhorrent ways. His opponent, ex NYPD Detective Kate McKinnon Rothstein has returned to her quiet life as an art historian and pampered socialite, spouse of her high-flying lawyer Richard. When her old NYPD partner Floyd Brown - also known from the first case 'Death Artist' - asks her to help him to chase a new serial killer with an obvious art connection, she thinks about it. But then her beloved husband Richard is murdered in a manner that points to the art killer that she gives her body, heart and soul to find this monster. But even monsters are not born this way, and especially this perp was as unfortunate as tgey come. But most of those facts will only be discovered in the nerve-wracking showdown between Kate and the Color Blind Killer...Starting a bit slowly it takes on speed after a bit, and author Santlofer is an artist as well as a writer, and his knowledge of the art and the world that is gyrating about it gives the interested readers thriller an intimate insight into the use of color - or the absence of it - makes the difference between a dabbler and a real painter. The character studies make a great difference here...OK - this thriller has its years, was written in the aftermath of 9/11, cops and perps are still smoking, Hi-So and Mafia are still a theme, so some scenes will seem familiar to the real thriller fans. But the core of the motivation that drives the killer on and on fascinated my lil'self really. I am looking now into the first book of the series right now, out of date or not. But the art in the crimes is really interesting me.My special thanks to the German reviewer Exlibris for their opinions about the German version. Got me really hooked!
