Davis Sensor Mounting Shelf

I decided I wanted to upgrade Davis Vantage Pro 2 weather station to a Plus model,that has UV and solar radiation data. The first thing I needed was this shelf to support the new sensors. You have to be careful if installing the shelf in place as the mounting rods are essentially loose until you screw them into the nuts in the bottom of the station. This means you have to hold the nut up in the nut sleeve and then put the pen sleeve in from the top and then screw it in while of course making sure that the sleeve on the other side does not fall out. It takes good hands. I suppose you could tape the nuts into the slot and hope they don’t fall out. In my case the weather station was mounted on the peak of my roof so one has to be very careful.

I bought this support bracket to mount the solar sensor. I was disappointed to find that the flat support to carry the sensors is made of plastic which has threaded inserts. I hope these inserts are moulded into the plastic and not just pressed in. For this price I expected the bracket to be made from anodised aluminium.The two long screws which pass through the bracket and support tubes are poor quality in finish and are also not straight, however they are made of a 304 grade stainless steel. Expected better from Davis.

This shelf bracket does exactly what it says it does it holds the Davis UV Sensor Part #6490 and the Davis Solar Sensor Part #6450 on to the main weather station. not much more to say. you need this bracket if you are going to put one or both sensors onto you Davis Weather Station. It is what it is.

Expensive as all Davis products are but it works. Only gave it 4 stars because of the expense. 4 pieces plus nuts and washers. Better than trying to mount the sun sensor using scrounged parts.

Easy install. Two bolts and done. What more is there to say.

Simple. Does what it is supposed to. Easy to install. Min of 20 words? This is like rating a crow bar. This is a very simple platform, easy to install and works exactly as claimed. If you are adding sensors to your Davis weather station, use this- unless you want to try to fabricate your own.
