It suddenly started making my water and everything taste like plastic.** A: I also had ice that started to taste bad after a few months. I cleaned it and it was fine. First I rinsed with water and drained it through the plug. I noticed some particulate in the water as it drained so I keep flushing it until it was clear. Then I put in a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar (a cup or so) and ran it for a few batches, then rinsed and drained and ran it again with fresh water. Zero bad taste. **Q: heard mold forms pretty quickly, is it easy to clean? how do you clean run vinegar through it or?** A: We have not seen any mold... We use it everyday so that may be why, but we turn it off when my son sleeps... I would think you could add some vinegar to the water and let it run a couple of cycles and then drain it (there is a drain plug), add more water and run a cycle or 2 to clear the vinegar... the cycles do not take long so this would take less than an hour to do. Although the smell of vinegar may linger a little. **Q: Do you have to use distilled or softened water with this ice maker?** A: If you have hard water in your area (ours is some of the worst in the country) by all means use filtered water or the parts will be caked with particulates after a few hours of use (my "so smart" son-in-law used tap water; it stopped working after about 8 months and the ice tasted like chalk. **Q: how do you keep the ice from the machine from sticking together in the freezer?** A: It only sticks a little at first. I put my ice in a freezer bag with a seal. After 15 to 30 minutes, it can just be dropped against counter or cutting board to break it apart. It does make ice quickly but it’s so hard to clean because it’s very heavy and needs to be cleqned constantly, definitely NOT WORTH IT!
