Its a sad day for my impact
Its a sad day for my impact. I ABUSED mine for 3 years and 1 month...near daily usage. Today it finally died on me. I have absolutely no complaints about it. It fell from 1.5 stories several times, got used as a hammer occasionally, was covered with pvc primer and god knows what else. It sure looked ugly after a while but still worked. It will surprise you...I've drilled through 2x4s with a 4" hole saw bit, driven 8" lag screws, a million drywall screws, 4" tapcons, hundreds of 1 1/2" spade bit holes through 2 and 4x4s, step bits to ream cut conduit...you name it. Whatever bit I put in it, no matter how ridiculous the idea seemed, this little guy got the job done. I know the only reason it broke is because I treated it like it was invincible. A little more common sense on my part and this driver would have lasted forever. This was my first porter cable purchase when I bought it in December 2014.

Best tool I've ever purchased
Best tool I've ever purchased. Bought this a little over 2 years ago and used it for many small/medium sized projects. I instantly fell in love. I've never owned an impact driver before, and wow, was I missing out! I recently build a 22' x 48' barn for my chickens. Everything was screwed together. I estimated I must have used over 4,000 screws, and this drill worked flawlessly. When/if this thing ever quits working, I'm buying another.

So far, so good
I bought this tool, to supplement my current power tool selection. I currently use Dewalt NiCad 18V XRP tools, and was looking for something lighter and more compact, to compliment, more than replace them. Since anything I would buy compatible with any batteries I already had would still be big & heavy, I had to go to a different platform.I was trying to decide what to get, I really liked the looks of the DeWalt 12V Max system, but found that the PC 20V Max tools were almost as compact, almost as light, but yet had performance almost on par with the 18V XRP tools I already owned, this impact driver in particular, and didn't cost any more. I wasn't stuck on brand, but I wanted a tool platform that would stand upright on the battery if set down on a table, shelf, etc, (which required it have a flat bottomed battery) and also one that had soft rubber pads on the sides, so that I could lay it on its side, and not scratch finished surfaces. I already had the top of the line 18V XRP impact driver, and thought this would be a handy compliment to it, for when I had a helper, to run some screws here and there. Well, long story short, this has every bit of power the XRP Dewalt does. The max torque of both is so close, that there really is no practical difference between them. The Porter Cable is also a 'little bit' more compact, and notably lighter. The bare tools (without battery) seem to weigh about the same (held in my hand, no scale) but the lithium batter of this tool, is notably lighter than the NiCad battery of my old driver. Granted, this kit comes with the 'compact' batteries, but the 'high capacity' versions, with twice the AH (amp hour) ratings are still significantly lighter than the Nicads, which helps reduce operator fatigue. Battery life is maybe 2/3 of the life of the XRP Nicads, but unless you are running the tool almost continually, you shouldn't run out of battery. The kit comes with two batteries, and a fast charger, and so far the spare one was recharged before the one in the driver went dead. Charging time seemed to be just under an hour. By then, I was ready for a drink of water, anyway. The toolbox this kit comes with, as sturdy, and the driver, charger, and spare battery fits inside nicely. Not much extra space inside, though. You can fit in some loose driver bits, but there isn't room for even a small 'box' of driver bits. They either need to be loose, or in a bag so it can squish some to conform to the space available. I personally would rather the box be a little bigger, and have a built in storage space for bits, so they wouldn't be rattling around loose inside, but I really can't fault Porter Cable for wanting the box to be as compact as possible.Fit, finish, and build quality appear to be as good as on any tool I own, every joint in the body of the tool fits together seamlessly, and it has a surprisingly solid feel, for as light as it is. Keep in mind I don't view this to be a 'super premium' tool, with every top of the line feature, but instead, to me, it seems to be a well-made, solid performing tool, built with an eye to cost. For example, the LED light that shines to the front of the tool, where the screw you will be driving would be, is down by the battery, and can cast a bit of shadow, some premium tools have more than one LED built right in the nose, oriented to minimize shadow, which works better, but adds to cost). However, it works pretty well, and lights up before the motor starts, so you can line everything up before it starts turning. Ditto things like gauge that estimates the remaining battery life. It is built into the tool, and works well, but some of the premium lines have the gauge built into the battery, so you can test it separately from the tool. However, I would think it would save a few bucks to make just one gauge on the drill, compared to including one with every battery. The spare bit holders are small magnets, instead of steel clips. Not quite as secure, but simple and work well. It also comes with a removable clip that you can mount on either side, to hang the tool on a pocket or toolbelt pouch. It is plenty heavy hanging from a pocket, but tolerable from a tool belt if it isn't loaded too much, otherwise. Overall, I am very happy with it. It seems to have as much power as my XRP DeWalt, that cost almost twice as much (with a somewhat shorter battery life between chargings)To sum up;Pros:Well madeGood performanceReasonable cost, without feeling 'cheap'Lightweight and comfortable to useComes with spare battery, case, and fast chargerConsFeatures are more 'basic' than 'premium', although for all but a true pro user, you likely won't really find it lackingLack of extra storage in kit boxUnknown durability (it looks well made, and feels solid, but I haven't had it long enough to tell how long it will last)

Pretty good
This is my first impact hammer, I wasn't even sure exactly what one does. This turned out to be a good buy, it's really fast, has a lot of torque and is a pretty good deal. Comes with a hard case 2 batteries and a charger. It's small and compact has a cool guide led lioght that comes on when you slightly press on the trigger. I would not use something like this to put Ikea furniture together, but for projects like installing a flagpole outside your house for drilling in rock or concrete or 2x4 wood and stuff. Does hold the charge for a long time and has a cool battery level indicator on the device itself.

high quality tool for an affordable price
i was set on buying a dewalt 20v max 3/8" cordless impact until i found out about this. it performs very nicely considering that it costs just a fraction of the price of the dewalt. i have 3/8" and 1/2" socket extensions, and put this impact to work on cars. It has no problem knocking loose lug nuts that are torqued to ~85 lb-ft of torque.the only thing that I really dislike about this impact is its outer design. all the techy designs on the outside make it a pain to clean since dirt and oils easily get stuck in between all the etches of rubber. Pro tip: use a wetted Mr. Clean magic eraser, or some other melamine sponge substitute to quickly clean up the impact after use.

worth the money
Ordered this for work as a boat builder along with drill used now for three weeks no problems works vary well, lots of driving power trigger control for smaller fasteners a must.I Like the light, belt loop, magnetic bit holder, and battary condition indicator. The whole driver was well thought out and light weight and balanced with the long lasting, fast charging lithium ion battary. I recomend a second battary for limited down time betwen changes. I hope this lasts a long time to come worth the money and would buy again.

Packs a Punch
This impact driver is my first Porter Cable with the lithium ion batteries. All of my older tools are NiCad. Man does this thing work great! I've used it on the motorcycles, automobiles, mowers and lots of other equipment. The battery lasts much longer and charges much faster. Can't wait to convert my older tools to the newer lithium batteries.

My new favorite tool
This tool is amazing. It's super lightweight and powerful. I didn't realize it came with a bag, so it made the purchase even better. I am able to store the driver, both batteries and charger in the bag. I was also surprised to see the battery level indicator on the drill. I am very impressed and now am finding any excuse to use it.

Better quality than Dewalt or Makita. Long lasting tool
Just bought this Porter cable driver as were installing a steel building with thousands of screws so need 2. Came with 2 batteries and charger. Bought exact same one 5 years ago and it's still working A1. Batteries last still for many hours. My original driver has driven well over 7000 3 inch deck screws and unlike the Makita that stripped the gears, my PC has not missed a beat. The led light is handy as is the battery gauge. I've had drills as well as the PC skill saw. This driver is worth every dollar. I was going to purchase a Dewalt set but they have 50 different models and so many bad reviws. Buy this Porter cable and save your hard earned money.

Buy it you won't regret it.
I managed to get this on a really good sale and I could not be happier. Even at full price it is still an excellent driver. Build quality is excellent and so far I have used it moderately while remodeling my house and I am very impressed. Driving in 3 1/2" screws was a massive chore for my old impact and with the Porter Cable they go in like they are going in butter.Excellent value and if you catch it on sale it is an unbeatable value.
