No I tried that and it will not play and charge at the same time

Not listed but I can verify I've gotten as much as four hours on it.

Do you have to press play on the cassette player for this to work? Otherwise how does it come in contact with the head in the player?

Most car players, including mine, auto play so that step isn’t necessary. If you were for some reason using a boom box, or home stereo, that didn’t auto play, then yes.

Does it power off automatically? When I no longer send it a playback task.

No, it will keep on standby until the power is exhausted.

I bought this to go in my 2002 Audi TT Charged overnight, has an easy to use on off button and shuts itself off when not used Went to use after a week in the car without being used and was still charged. Some background noise but I’d put that down to the original cassette player. Wouldn’t use if you want high clarity sound but if you just want to play your own tunes it’s ideal. Over all, good purchase
