Multiple uses and simplifies meal preparation
Our Mezzaluna knife just arrived today and we could hardly wait to try it out making our veggie pizza for dinner. Chopping up vegetables was so much quicker and easier than with a regular knife -- especially for me with arthritic fingers. The Mezzaluna is a very comfortable weight -- light enough to handle easily but heavy enough to cut through raw vegies with ease. It's well balanced and easy to move swiftly around the cutting board. The molded handles are comfortable to grasp for maneuvering the blade. When the pizza was done, the Mezzaluna blade cut through toppings and crust like a hot knife through butter -- in other words, the sharp blade makes slicing a cinch. Our next plan for the Mezzaluna is chopping herbs to make a pesto sauce. This is a great kitchen tool that reduces effort and simplifies meal prep. Oh,and thanks to the Bold Bee for making the packaging environmentally friendly and easy to recycle.

It makes mincing stuff so easy!
I mince air fried chicken to mix with my dog's dry food. It used to take a while and it gets tiring chopping up chicken using a normal chef's knife. With a normal knife, I end up with a mixture of chunky and fine chicken. This allows my dog to pick and choose what she eats, and this leaves a lot of dry food at the end of her meal. With this knife, it is so easy! I can take my time as it does not get tiring, and the end product is so fine that my dog eats up everything! The chicken is minced so fine that she cannot pick and choose, and she eats everything!

You'll want to wash both parts with a good degreasing dish soap
I bought this originally to chop salad for my button quail so they had greens that would fit in their tiny mouths. This did the trick without making the leaves mushy. It took a little practice to get the rhythm down, but once I figured it out, it was so much faster than taking out the food processor, chopping greens with that and then cleaning up everything. With the mezzaluna, I had only the knife and the cutting board to clean. As I was deciding on mezzalunas, what drew me to this one compared to others with similar ratings and prices, was the company's mission for eco-friendly efforts and the blade cover. The knife comes packaged simply, in a clear bag and a cardboard box, so very little packaging to get rid of and no extra knife block to purchase. Kudos! On arrival, there is some sort of oil on the blade and thus, in the blade cover. I'm assuming/hoping it's mineral oil to keep out moisture and prevent rust. You'll want to wash both parts with a good degreasing dish soap, not just the blade, before using. I recommend Costco's Kirkland brand eco-friendly dish soap. Depending on the water in your area, the soap might be on the alkaline side and leave that slimy residue on your hands like baking soda does. You can counter this by adding a little white vinegar to adjust to ph (about 1tsp give or take). I transfer it to an old dish soap bottle, rather than adding to the original bottle, and disperse vinegar in intermittently as I pour it in the bottle and rotate the closed bottle to mix.. It's comparable to Dawn, but I like the smell and the lower carbon footprint of Costco's better (Dawn is petroleum-based) since we're on this eco-wagon with the company selection already. Maintenance is easy. Follow the directions of drying immediately after washing, then sheath it to protect the blade and your hands. I've used mine several times already and it still looks new. No water spots or rust like some negative reviews have mentioned. It would be nice if that wasn't a risk, however, it does force me to put it away sooner! If you haven't used a mezzaluna before, I recommend looking up some videos on Youtube. Avoid the ones where the person is either rocking front/back (ergonomics, sheesh!) or using it to slice like a regular knife (just use a regular knife, and avoid holding a two handed blade with one hand). You'll want to use a left/right and diagonal rocking motion and a large cutting board. If you're starting with full leaves like kale, mustard greens, or romaine, go slow and do 2-3 rocks to cut the leaves down to size. Reposition the leaves in a pile and gradually increase speed as the pieces get smaller. For softer leaves like spinach, you'll want to maintain a good pile otherwise you'll just indent the leaves and not cut through. I think it's just the cell or fiber structure of spinach that does that. Once it's on a pile, it's fine.

High quality product. A bit too large.
Wish I would have purchased the 10" vs. 12". The product is great but just too big to be practical in a normal kitchen. I give it 5 stars for quality but 4 stars for practicality.

Great value for the money and excellent customer service!
This mezzaluna is a great buy! First, because you can't beat it decent price and its included cover (many don't include one!). To be perfectly honest the blade is not the pinnacle of quality, But for the money you're paying your definitely getting you moneys worth and with proper care it should last a long time! It's solid and has a decent edge that will get most jobs done. I've yet to sharpen it yet so I don't know how it will sharpen but I don't foresee this steel to be to difficult but we'll see I guess. Secondly, the customer service is excellent! That is definitely why this review got the full five stars! I initially didn't receive the bonus stainless soap bar, and the owner of the company went above and beyond to make it right! Therefore in conclusion I believe this to be a decent product and am very satisfied with the customer service!

Best pizza cutter ever!
This mezzaluna arrived in perfect condition, no rust or damaged packaging as reported elsewhere. After reading other reviews the first thing I did was sharpen it, just to be sure. It did a terrific job cutting large pizzas quickly and easily. No problems at all with the handles. It is easy to wash and dry, and so far has not grown any rust while stored.

I'm glad I waited and got this larger one
I have wanted a mezzaluna for a long time. I'm glad I waited and got this larger one. The seller was very helpful in answering questions and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from him again. The larger mezzaluna minces herbs from my garden nicely, but it also does more. I use it daily. It is quite sharp and that is good for mincing and rough chopping. The little cover requires some finesse and pressure to apply and remove. I can see a slip of the hand causing injury. I mounted another magnetic strip to the side of the cabinets over my sink and hang it there for storage. It is safer and easily accessible. I'm glad I have the little sleeve, though; I have appropriated it for tracing designs on my artwork.

Solid herb chopper
Feels great when chopping herbs and the like - very solid and handles offer a good grip. Also works well with pizza

Looks like a guillotine, works like a sword.
First impression was a bit frightening. That is a very sharp very curved and very exposed blade, quite different than a regular kitchen knife. We got over that quickly. This knife is a must have in the kitchen. Sure we cut pizza with it, wouldn't you? and it does that well, but what I didn't expect was how easy it is to chop and mince with this thing. I'd recommend a decent sized cutting board, at least for the amount of stuff that I'm choping and mincing. It is easy to hold, easy to handle and control, and presents none of the danger we originally thought it might. The only time you need to keep your wits about you, well more than one alwasy does with a sharp knife, is putting the blade protector back on. Of course, when washing, if you aren't using a brush and insist on a cloth, keep the blad pointed away from you, and wipe from the closest edge out across the sharp edge, never across the sharp edge - if you prize your finger tips :-) Have used this now for a long time, it stays sharp, is easy to use, is stable and easily managed with both hands (remember BOTH hands). We are never going back to mincing with a broad blade, this just does such a better and faster job. p.s. yes, we do use the stainless steel soap bar. It's a funny thing, works pretty well for smelly hands. When we are messing with fish, and have that fishy smell on them, a rinse in the sink with this bar and the smell is taken care of. Of course, it doesn't replace soap for actually washing and cleaning one's hands, but to avoid drying out one's hands and still being able to continue working in the kitchen without fishy smelling hands, this does the trick. It was a nice "gift" along with the awesome knife.
