Ordered for a class, I don't really read texts, just the summaries.

Bravo Richard!
Turn to page 21 and you'll gain a new appreciation for roosters and their culture in Bali. Though you may need a double take, let me assure you, you truly are seeing a certain vulgarity said at least thirty times within 3 pages. I have never learned more in any other course than from this section alone.Superbly written, Richard should take the helm for most of the verbiage in this textbook. He offers small subliminal hints of his sexuality that I for one, can appreciate. Clifford Geertz isn't the only one who's "all cock crazy"!

Printed access card-where I don't see it.
I only gave this four stars because the book did not come with the printed access card as advertised. Without the card you cannot access any of the online study helps which I needed for the class. I would not have ordered the book if I had known there was no access card with the access code. It is my feelings this is false advertising and has created several problems with the class already. The book is a good one though and covers the subject area well with understandable explanations. The book did arrive in the time stated and was in good condition as advertised.

Meh.
Decent text for an introductory Anthro class. Talks too much in general about ideas like globalization and neoliberalism but too little about actual cultures and how they grow, develop, change, and die. When it does talk about cultures, the examples are always extremely specific and often not terribly interesting. Also is one of those textbooks that tries to make learning "fun" by using colorful picture backgrounds and cluttering up the margins with all kinds of colorful side notes and other garbage. Just the information please, no frills needed.

some of this stuff is a little boring, but man oh man
I'm not going to sugarcoat it. I'm am not an Anthropology major, some of this stuff is a little boring, but man oh man, when they get into economics, medicine, and how consumerism effects other cultures.... that's very interesting. It's an easy read.
