Radial BigShot I O True-Bypass Instrument Selector

Rock solid instrument switching solution for the purist.
Construction is undeniably solid with a reassuringly heavy weight. I reckoned it was worth the extra $10 to get this newer model for the friendlier top mounted volume knob, the option to have LED indicators and the convenience of having all the jacks on one back panel. The ability to match input levels is a huge benefit to me. The input 2 volume knob has a very stiff yet smooth action which makes it easy to set where you want and much less likely to drift accidentally. If you want to trim a higher output passive instrument that is more sensitive to signal loading (like a bass with the pickups wired in series) using a passive volume knob would normally cause a noticeable loss in treble. The "bright" switch seems to counteract that quite effectively.I've tried cheap A/B boxes which lack the very important level matching capability and don't feel nearly so roadworthy. I've also tried using a mixer (supposedly a pretty good make: Allen & Heath) and found the hi-z inputs couldn't really handle my passive bass signal. This unit seems like the definitive solution to my doubling woes. My only regret is waiting so long to get it.

Quality product, a little smaller than I expected, but perfect for my needs.
Allows me to run 2 instruments into my Fractal AX8 without noise or popping when changing instruments or inputs. A wonderful addition and the perfect tool for P&W players.I used input 1 for my electric with a passive signal, and use input 2 for my acoustic (Taylor 716ce) with the Espression System that is active, that enables me to adjust my acoustic signal to the same level as the passive and quieter electric signal delivering the same signal level to my AX8. This makes it easier on the church sound guy.My only niggle would be the size, it is more compact than I thought. I would not have minded a little larger of a pedal but I can see why they made it compact like they did. Most people with many pedals on a pedal board will appreciate the compact size.

Does the job well! Recommended!
I would give this 5 stars except for a couple of minor points.1) This is the only "effects" pedal I use, so I didn't have a ready power supply. It would have been nice to know up front that it didn't come with one. I found one cheap at Radio Shack, so not a big deal. Plus, you only need power to operate the LEDs but why would you use the thing without any indicators?2) It seems that you only get output if BOTH inputs are connected. That's counterintuitive to me, but I can deal.Other than that, it does exactly what I need: I have a Guild D-40 Acoustic with an active Fishman thinline bridge pickup which I plug into the gated input (2), and a Trinity College octave mandolin in which I installed a K&K Sound Big Twin internal (passive) pickup, and by adjusting the gain on Input 2, I can present the same output level to the board regardless of which instrument I switch to. Would definitely recommend.

Effortless Instrument Switching, No Tone Loss
Replaced a VT Bass Deluxe preamp/switcher with this simpler pedal. This unit does not color the sound like the VT, and I like the tuner output that you can set only to work when the pedal is muted. Input/output jacks are very snug, switches feel solid under foot and have a reassuring click. Power is easy with any standard adapter (including my cheap daisy chain plug). Input 2 has a trim control that allows you to match output easily between two instruments, and also has a 3-position high frequency control to compensate for low output/passive instruments that may experience this kind of loss. Overall a very solid unit that should last for years to come. Highly recommended!
