Like flannel wrapped around a foam core board. What I received was a kind of flannel sheet, with some kind of "interfacing" that gave the flannel a but more "weight." It was also trimmed and has hanging grommets. If you are planning on hanging this on a wall, say with command hooks, this may serve you well. If you were planning on resting it on a chalk rail, tipped against a wall, or resting against your forelegs.
