Total ukulele Greenhorn
I almost threw this Ukulele out on more than one occasion. First when I tried to play it with the "instructions" it came with (finally figured out the instructions weren't for a baritone at all!) then when I started using this book. I was so upset and frustrated I was almost in tears. Then I tried reading the instructions. Yes actually sitting and reading from the cover. That's when I found the Audio link and thus the Ukulele was saved from a pretty roaring fire I had going.I figured out I'm trying to play chords when the instructions begin with individual notes. Picking rather than strumming if you will.Paired book and Audio, I finally started to get it and once I did I had to leave a review.I was honestly packing it up to give to my nephew until tonight. The Audio visual learning this inexpensive book provides is absolutely the best.If you are like me and done know the first thing about playing a ukulele, I highly highly recommend this author!

So far so Good
In a fit of mid-life crisis.., I decided I wanted to play an instrument. I thought "Hey, the Ukulele, four strings, about two octaves... how hard can it be." Well, I have no musical talent (that I know of) unless you count making farting noises with my armpit in Junior High. This is a basis book, that starts with This is a Ukulele!. I found it a challenge, but each exercise, builds on the one before it, and that helps. The book includes both notes and TABs which is a big help if you want to read music. The CD that comes with it is useful, if only to hear it done right.I gave it four stars as I have no other books to compare it to, But, overall, I have no complaints.., and I'm better than I was a week ago.

Somewhat simplistic and not comprehensive enough
If you know anything about music, especially if you know anything about playing a guitar-like instrument, you'll find this book way too simplistic; I played guitar a few decades ago and got through this book in two hours when my fingers reconnected with the fretboard. Also note that this book is titled 'Book 1', and published in 2012, but there's no 'Book 2' yet? Book 1 seems incomplete and really needs a 'Book 2' to complete the chord sets and get a few more practice songs and intro to different picking methods in the learning program. My suggestion is to get 'Baritone Ukulele From Scratch' by Bruce Emery; much more comprehensive, easy to follow, and you'll have a decent ability on the 'Uke' when you get to the last page.

Good starter book
Got this for my 6 year old son along with a baritone ukelele (also from Amazon). He is really enjoying these. I had to help explain the beginning of the book (I have some music background but not with stringed instruments) and the process but once I explained the vocabulary and general premise he was off on his own. Absolutely worth the $ and will get us through until he can start lessons :)

Very helpful, makes a great gift.
I bought this for my dad for Christmas and he absolutely loved it. I bought it to go with the Baritone Ukelele that my mom got him. He already knows how to play regular ukelele but the baritone has different fingerings. He has been using this non-stop, and has pretty much grasped the concept as far as I know. I would recommend this for any beginner or even someone who already knows how to play regular ukelele and would like to begin the baritone!

Calling all persons who like 2 play something but can't manage a guitar. Guess what! Baritones sound great and r cheap.
I got this book and had high hopes. It is good. BUT, when it said CD I was expecting a visual one, where I could see Hal play just like when I first learned guitar. It is a CD as described, so my disappointment maybe unjustified. It would have been so much better is accompanied by a DVD.What is great about his book in conclusion is that it shows how to play great songs that show the Baritone UKE off. They often song more full and rich than an acoustic I have no financial interest in this author..

Great addition to basic ukulele instruction
I took up ukulele after many years of playing guitar and found it easy, however this book has opened up a whole new aspect of playing Baritone and is very easy to follow if you have basic knowledgeThere are also online lessons too which are very good value included with this bookGood Value and Recommended

Just what I wanted
Saw this & brought one myself on the basis of 3rd party comments. It arrived today & looks to be just what I wanted. A stage by stage tutorial covering the very basics of Baritone uke tuned DGBE.

Don't bother buying this
Useless. Not worth buying. All the lessons are supported by an audio backing, presumably a CD of tracks, that WAS NOT INCLUDED WITH THE BOOK. This is frusyrating and annoying. V naughty to sell this book minus the CD

Useful and effective
Although I found the book, in parts, rather boring, I would still say that it acts as a good additional resource.

Easy to follow
Clear layout. Code for the Halleonard library is really useful.
