WHO WOULD HAVE EVER GUESSED?
I would never have thought that I would be posting a five star review for Garden Mate Gauge HEAVY-DUTY U-Shaped Garden Securing Pegs...but here it is!I usually pick up a pack every few years at my local hardware store, but I waited a little too late into the season (winter) to decide that I needed some of these things. You see, I sometimes use them to hold landscaping plastic in place under mulch, but my primary use for them is Christmas lights. I like to outline my flower gardens and walk ways in fairy lights, and these things are absolutely perfect for shoving into the ground and between rocks in my rock wall, to hold the lights in place and to keep them from blowing across the lawn when the weather gets really windy and nasty.I buy a packet or two every few years because the things that I have been buying locally are rather thin, and the bend out of shape easily. They also rust fast. There are also 100 of these things in a pack. The boxes of pegs that I buy locally have 45 of them for the same price as these. Another reason to love these! It was fortuitous that I waited a few weeks longer to go shopping for these things, because otherwise, I would have ended up with yet another pack of things that would be shot before I bring the lights back in after Christmas. A quick on-line search brought me to these things...They are really heavy-duty, thick and solid enough that when I needed to step on one to get it into the ground, it didn't flatten out like the thinner ones do. Thesesod staples will last me many years, I'm sure, and I will only be replacing these after I have successfully lost enough of them to make it necessary. If you are planing a big landscaping job, one the involves rock or stone, or laying fabric under an area where there will be foot traffic, I would strongly recommend that you but a pack or two of these things! They are built to last. Something I can't say about any of the other staples that I have used over the years. So there...I DID just review sod staples! Who would have ever guessed?

Great product
What a great product. Used them to secure weed barrier. Even in the wind the staples are able to keep the weed barrier securely in place. Highly recommend this product.

So far, they worked great!
Not sure how they will last through the winter but so far they were nice and sturdy and pushed into the ground and through the black ground cover easily enough. They have a nice slanted edge to help poke through. I have strawberries and under/around the plant, on the ground I have a black breathable plastic type covering to keep the weeds down and the strawberries clean. These stakes worked nicely! Then for our freezing MN winters, I covered them with a snow blanket. I used rocks to hold that down so there's not double the puncture holes in the black tarp. It will be interesting to see if they rust once we get through the winter, when spring comes.

Used to discourage digging in the garden
Whenever I put in plants or seeds, the birds, squirrels, cat and dogs in my neighborhood would dig at the fresh dirt. I used hundreds of six inch bamboo sticks to prevent them from digging. Then I got smart and got some chicken wire fencing, cut it to fit the planted area and anchored it with the bamboo sticks bent at an angle. It worked well but it was far from perfect. Now I use these U-shaped metal staples to firmly anchor down the chicken wire. Believe me, nothing digs up my garden now. These U-staples can also be used to hold down artificial grass. I'm sure there are many more uses for them. Easy to put in and remove. Use a rubber mallet to pound them down if your dirt is hard and use a long screwdriver to pry them out if they don't pull out easily.

Small Price, Big Results, Variety of Projects
These are great for my needs - 6" firmly seats weed barrier material to ground but I found other uses as well. 1) I am creating a pebble walk with 3/4" boards on top. I drilled two holes in each end of the boards and hammered the pins through on each side to secure them to the top of the pebbles - the 6" pins passed easily through the drilled holes, through the pebbles, through two sheets of weed barrier and into the ground making a stable walkway. 2) I am installing a teak border at the edge of my patio. The teak border consists of small teak columns in 4 ' lengths, wired together. To stabilize the border, I am inserting the pins every few columns and over the bottom wire, hammering the the pins into the ground. This has helped the columns to remain in an upright position and in place. The 11 gauge steel accepts hammering very well without bending the pins.

Perfect for Sod and Weed Barriers
Bought these to secure sod on a steep hill on the side of my driveway; for which they work great! I also intend on using them for securing weed barrier in my flower bed as well as a straw mat on the other side of my driveway for grass seed. I also have the galvanized ones (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PQL7JJ8) that don't rust, and they work good too, but are curved "U" whereas these are a "square" shaped "U". These are meant to rust, which in theory should give them better holding power in the ground via more friction. In my opinion, these are better for sod, weed barrier, etc. and the galvanized curved ones are better for holding down hoses and such. The more square shape of these does not "pinch" the sod and weed barrier when tightened down, but rather just holds it flat. They will bend if you hit a rock or concrete while inserting, but are very sturdy and easily bent back into shape. All in all, good purchase at a good price.

Strong, but expensive garden pegs
I purchased this to stake down soaker hoses in my backyard. They are super heavy duty and do not bend or pull out of the ground easily. My garden is full of clay and rock and I could hammer on these stakes without bending them. My only complaint is that I did not purchase more of them and had to buy some similar ones from Home Depot. Those garden stakes were terrible in comparison. I had to use 2-4 to get the holding power of one of these. However, these were significantly more expensive than the thin ones from Home Depot. If you are just putting down weed fabric / landscaping fabric or holding down sod, you could probably get away with a cheaper alternative.I highly recommend these staples for soaker hoses or in areas where there is an abundance of rock and clay.

Worked well
Initially thought these too long for my use. So cut a bunch to 4 ". Found later 6" worked fine. Worked well and a good value.

Big is better, but hard ground or gravel can test your patience.
With regular soil profile these staples are sturdy and easy to use, but with a heavy clay soil or gravel composed soil you may find you're bending more of these than you'll get straight into the ground. Found the best results, for conditions like these, are to hold the staple legs as straight as possible while hammering them in. Sounds simple, but last 2 inches can be a pain. Make no mistake these are way better than that flimsy smaller types sold at big-box stores. Although we bent a bunch of them, they held the landscape fabric well enough.

Very easy to use with mesh fence. Cut time in half.
Very easy to use on mesh fence. Cut time in half for installation over the other way we did it! Will use it in the future.
