We got him one that looks like a real futuristic car a year or two ago, but he didn't take very good care of it, and it was at least five bucks. But these were well under a buck each, and they are easily as fun to play with, and fewer sharp(ish) edges in the design. Yeah, they don't look as cool, but they are super fun. The friction motors in these things move these suckers like you wouldn't believe. Well worth the money, in my opinion. One of my friends lost his under bleachers in the community center immediately after we gave him one, but for the price, I didn't feel bad giving him another one. After it wore out, found these to replace. The 12 pack is a reasonable price for a cute kids toy. My son is 3 and he can be a amused for quite a while with this toy, which i consider a win. They have good wheels and a plastic body that doesn't always come put together fully, but is easy to fix. The friction machine inside does eventually get worn out, but still can't beat the price for the smiles and giggles while playing with this toy. Much more reasonable than larger, expensive models.
