EZ-Clean Membrane Filter Cartridge for Katadyn Be Free Water Filters For Endurance Sports, Camping and Backpacking (8019641)

Went on a backpacking trip recently and took a Sawyer mini. It took so much time and effort to filter water that it didn’t seem sustainable longterm. After reading multiple reviews of available filters, this one sounded like it would fit my needs the best with its 0.1 micron filter, filtration speed, and ease of cleaning. I also happen to prefer using my 2L Hydrapaks over any of my other bags and I dislike the idea of lugging around Smartwater bottles, so the fact that this will fit the Hydrapaks I have was a huge deciding factor. When I tested the filter at home I was very satisfied with the flow rate. I’m also excited to not have to worry about back flushing the filter, even if that leads to a shorter filter life overall as some users have pointed out on various forums. The Sawyer can now live in my daypack for emergency use since it works better when drinking directly from it rather than trying to filter larger volumes of water with it.

I was on a 5 day backpacking trip with my usual water filter and came across a couple using this product and raving about it. Bought this one and it's a real game changer. Now I take it backpacking and to Europe, and anyplace I want filtered water!

the katadyn befree is an absolute game changer! i used to suffer through complicated systems with even more complicated backwashing procedures. befree gets rid of all of that! just put the suspect water in your bottle, screw on the filter and go! the flow is even good enough to use to fill larger water systems that i carry on multi-day trips. BUT the flow rate will diminish over time. this is expected, not a flaw, it happens with all water filters of this type. you need to be aware of two things: 1. keep the filter clean! this is easy. every month or so, i just use clean water in the bottle and push a few liters through. 2. if the filter is left dry for a long time, this will badly mess up the flow. to fix this, just fill your bottle and let the filter soak in there for several hours, then go back to step one and flush the filter with a few liters of clean water. this should do the trick for most instances. if it does not, that means its time for a replacement filter. which leads me to my 4 star review for what is definitely a 5+ star product.. katadyn packages these replacement filters in a resealable storage bag. this is not sealed in such a way that you can be assured that the product has not been tampered with... this is extremely alarming, particularly in this post pandemic world. someone could easily try the filter out, dry it off, and put it back in the plastic baggy and return it as if it were unused. i would caution people who care about their health to order this product from a reputable vendor (ah hem.. im pretty sure i cant name names here, so please use your discretion and do not order this from a website that you frequently get open box products from when you are ordering something "new") anyway, exceptional product, but be wary of questionable vendors when ordering. i contacted katadyn directly, and they confirmed they sell these in non-tamper evident packaging. that sucks, but this product is so good, i'll keep using it - i'll just try to buy it in person when i can.

I brought this product as a back up to take with me on my awesome hike to Everest Base Camp. It did what it said on the tin.....keeping me hydrated! Easy to use in conjunction with water purification tablets which may have been OTT, but hey......no stomach problems and no need to use my back up filter just yet!! Love it! ❤️
