Born a Soldier: The Times and Life of Larry A Thorne

Quiet an amazing story. The books is possibly to deeply focused on the Winter- and Continuation wars in Finland, but that gave on the other hand new insights even for myself who thought I was pretty well educated on that part of WW2 in Scandinavia.Larry Thorne and several of his Finnish ex-commanders where the very nucleus of the new Special Forces, Larry himself being the model for John Waynes character in the move "the Green Berets".The book is well researched but written sometimes in a slightly clumsy way with lots of repeats of the same facts, there goes one star. But is is very well worth the read and I will probably look into it again in the future for crosschecking facts.

Sadly I found this a rather slow read

Vale ainda para entender como a Guerra Fria sob muitos aspectos foi uma continuidade da Segunda Guerra Mundial. Indispensável para os aficionados.

90% of this book is a history update and about 10% is specific to the individual in question. Apparently, Thorne was a tough and remarkable guy but little of what is written establishes any type of support that he was somehow unique. Thorne's story could likely have been completed in about 30 pages, the rest is a poor attempt at making a mountain out of a mole hill.
