While admittedly not something you would be able to take on a backpacking trip, for most other kinds of camping it would be perfectly suitable. So, let me start with basic description of the pad. The pad is a piece of memory foam that measures about 3 1/4″ thick, 73″ long, and 36″ wide. Surrounding the pad is a fabric cover, with black nylon on one side, and a kind of grey faux terry-cloth on the other. This cover easily zips off for washing (machine wash safe). Nylon straps are sewn into the back side (the black nylon side) of the cover, with buckles, making it easy to roll up and secure. It also means you can’t lose them. It has a carry strap to make it easy to handle in this configuration. Back side, showing zipper (center bottom), as well as straps and buckles for rolling up. When rolled up, the pad measures about 16″ in diameter and 38″ wide. This can vary, depending on how tightly you roll it. For storage, the rolled pad goes into a nylon bag. Unlike most other things you get nowadays, the manufacturer did not skimp on the bag size. The rolled-up pad fits quite easily in the bag, which I particularly like. Most sleeping bags, tents, tarps, blinds, gazebos, awnings, and anything else camping-related that comes in a bag require you to stuff them back in the bag. Not this. In fact, there is enough spare room for me to throw a tightly-folded wool blanket in the bag with the pad. The bag has carry strap that allows you to easily sling it over a shoulder. My experience with this pad has been great. I have, of course, used this pad while camping in my truck. Combined with a good sleeping bag, it does an excellent job preventing a lot of heat loss from beneath. On top of that, well, it’s memory foam. So, it’s far more comfortable to sleep on than a thin piece of closed-cell foam or no pad at all. It’s also a lot less noisy than an air mattress, and not prone to leaks like air mattresses are. One thing I have noticed is that using it in cold weather causes the foam to become quite a bit more stiff. It is still comfortable nonetheless. Beyond camping, the pad has been useful in two other situations. First, when I have overnight guests, I pull out this pad. I don’t have a guest room, so unfortunately, guests have to “rough it” on the living room floor. The pad makes this a bit more comfortable. So, you could use this for your guests, for your kids’ sleepovers, etc. Second, in preparation for moving, I have most of my belongings packed up, including a bag over my prized queen-sized mattress. I had intended to move in the very near future (and perhaps still may), so my intention was to move the bulk of my stuff ahead of time and “camp” in my current house until I made the move. So, I am currently sleeping on this pad full time. I have to say, I really don’t mind it at all. But, I prefer a firmer mattress anyway, so this doesn’t feel all that different. It’s actually very reminiscent of my old rack mattress aboard ship, although this one is a better, memory foam version (not to mention it’s never in a berthing with 39 other people). In case you hadn’t gathered by this point, I do like this pad a lot. But, let me tell you about some of the negatives so you don’t get the idea I can’t be objective. First, there is the price. As a piece of temporary furniture, it is not the cheapest. At $159.95, this is more of an investment than the $20.00 Wal-Mart air mattress you may keep on hand in case of company, or the inflatable pool float that doubles as an air mattress. You have to know you’re going to get a lot of use out it, otherwise it just isn’t worth it. For a casual weekend camper, it isn’t such a big deal to have one or two nights of poor sleep, because they will be heading home to their nice warm bed at home afterwards. So this probably isn’t for those types (unless you’re also the type that likes to have expensive accessories). However, spending a few weeks on the road at a time, and adding in the occasional day (or week) of hard work in the wilderness, I find it easy to justify the importance of a good night’s sleep. The next drawback is the size. It is not a huge drawback if you’re planning for it. But obviously, this takes up much more space than your average closed-cell foam camping pad. It is a rather bulky item. So, if your car is already full of stuff when you go camping, you may not have space for this pad in there too. I think that’s really it. I mean, there is the fact that it gets firmer in cold weather, but I don’t think that’s really a negative. It’s just a thing that happens. It’s still far softer than any of the other types of portable mattresses or pads. Even compared to an air mattress. So, if that was a negative to you, I’d say you probably should look into getting an RV with a regular inner-spring mattress in it. Because that’s probably the only thing softer in cold weather. Overall, I have no problem recommending this product to someone who is looking for a sleeping pad for this particular type of use. I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. But, I do think it is a good quality product. Despite the cost, I have been very satisfied with it, and don’t in any way regret spending the money I did on it. My current job has me in an odd living situation, where I'm forced to fit all of my possessions in my small-ish crossover and move across the continent from project to project, renting apartments as I go for months at a time. This unfortunately precludes me from getting a proper mattress. This thing is a perfect solution for me. While I wouldn't call it compact, it's small enough that I can shove it into my vehicle. In terms of my setup, I wrapped it up in an actual mattress cover and sheets, then laid it on top of my sleeping bag + a fleece blanket. This is all on top of a maybe decade old carpeted floor. I'm a middle-aged bigger guy (early 30s, 6', ~200lbs), and while I can still feel the floor a little when on my side, it's not bad at all. It's more comfortable than a lot of mattresses I've used over the years. I generally tend to prefer a firmer mattress, and this ends up feeling a bit like that. It's especially nice when sleeping on your back. I was hoping the bottom layer would've been a bit firmer/more supportive, and I have no idea how long this thing will maintain its shape/firmness. I've been using it for about a month now, and so far it's okay. Prior to this, I tried a similar amalgamation of blankets + sleeping bag with a 1" foam camping roll and one of those 18"+ tall self inflating air mattresses. The former was too firm (constantly felt the floor) and the latter wasn't supportive enough, in addition to the baffles failing after a couple months. This thing is superior to both of those solutions overall, in my opinion. It comes very close to feeling like a real mattress.

I just received my Better Habitat after throwing away my third air mattress. I was looking for something more comfortable and durable. I was also in the market for a 'convenience upgrade' from the time it took to inflate/deflate & fold/fit the air mat. You think they could make the bag a little bigger so you don't have to fold it so perfectly. SMH My interest was piqued when I saw this. It literally takes seconds to get the bed ready. Remove from bag, unclip and let unfold as the company wrote in the description. (PROs) 1. Super convenient, takes seconds to get ready 2. Memory foam is very comfortable, more comfortable than my own bed :( 3. Easy to fold but also not too thin. I was worried I might sink to the floor but foam is very supportive 4. Comes with a comfortable cotton terry liner that is supposedly water and sweat proof. Important for this type of investment 5. Love the top entry carry bag. Very easy to load, unload (CONs) 1. I wished they offered more sizes

Took a week vacation and rolled and unrolled every day, placing in bag. Also used at home due to husband snores. Dislikes: For storage it is wide. Width of single bed. When carrying over shoulder, awkward getting through doorways. Has a little weight to it, but still able to carry over shoulder, being an older women. Likes: More comfortable than an air bed! Was just enough padding sleeping on the floor. Slept great all night. I am a side sleeper. Rolled up easy and was actually able to get back into storage bag several times I have used it! Cover easy to take on/off to wash. Straps seem heavy duty and adjustable, keeping it all rolled up, no matter how tight able to roll it. Would have been awesome to use back in our tent camping days. Thinking would be great for dorm room in future. Was very happy with this purchase!

I bought this because I lay on the floor, a hard tile floor and with 3 cats, my air mattresses were not holding up. So I needed something that wasn't going to get air holes in it, could be stored easily and was comfortable. The first mattress is received was a little too soft. Also please note the item description of thickness. One customer commented it was 4 inches thick but the item description is about 2-3 inches thick. It's a great tool up mattress for something to lay out on carpet as it's quick comfortable. I was about to make mine even more comfortable with a mattress topper to help alleviate my laying on hard tile. The company is REALLY REALLY helpful. I told them how I lay on the floor and they sent me one that was a little thicker than the first one and it's actually pretty great. It's apparently their new model so if you lay on hard floor like me, this is a good purchase. I know for a fact once I get my own place and a bed, this product is going to make an every MORE amazing mattress topper. Its a really great quality, too. When you initially take it out of the package, it looks thin but the foam quickly expand and it comes with a removable cover which is GREAT for washing. This is a great product for guests who come over or if you just moved in and need something better than an air mattress. It's comfortable and reliable and the customer service is top notch. I would suggest this over all the others (I've had a folding futon and another roll out and neither compare).

I purchased this product to sleep on a hardwood floor next to an injured pet in my own home in an attempt to keep said pet from climbing the stairs and exacerbating his condition. This product is very high quality and has a wonderful waterproof casing that was easy enough to put on even though I accidentally ignored directions that would have made it even easier. It comes with a nice carrying bag, as well. I've slept on it for two nights thus far and have found it quite comfortable and easy to stow away for the day. I didn't give it 5 stars for comfort/sleep quality simply because it's still sleeping on the floor, albeit with some very good padding. It would probably be more comfortable if I didn't have a couple of back issues and weighed a little less, as well. I can imagine this would be fantastic for camping, although wouldn't be ideal for a backpacking trip that covers long distances. I am very happy with my purchase!

Edit: we have even used this in the hospital during our child’s birth as a topper on the guest pull out bed and Dad loved how cozy it was! Definitely worth the investment!! I had a few concerns to begin with. The space it takes up in the car and how fast I sank to the floor when first laying on it (after 48 hours) made me fear our camping trip. For the space issue, we ended up taking two cars so we didn’t mind the bulkiness after all! And being pregnant, I had no problem carrying it, not heavy like I thought it’d be. Before the trip, I laid a 4” mattress topper on it and it was SUPER cozy, but I woke up with back pain so I think the softness of both wasn’t enough support. At that point I knew I had to just go for it with this foam pad for me and the mattress topper for my fiancé. I decided not to buy another for my fiancé, since they felt about the same. We ended up taking the topper, this foam pad, and 4 comforters and it was the best sleep I’ve had while camping ! I loved my Intex Air Mattress but I was tired of waking up to air it up half way through the night, not to mention the amount it’d cost to replace it every few years He slept really well too on his mattress topper, in case that’s all you have at home it’ll work! I’m 8 months pregnant and a 200+ lb side sleeper, so I was afraid I’d be in pain or have a hard time getting up but I had no problems at all! Overall I love this thing ! And I’m glad we’ll always have it for camping or overnight guests. It was definitely worth the buy.

I purchased one of these a few years ago and it was great! I used it to help soften a very firm portable bed. After I thought I would no longer need it, I donated it to a local charity. About a year later, I needed one again, so I purchased the same item, assuming it would feel the same. Unfortunately, it did not. This one has been much more firm and not nearly as comfortable as the first one. The cover seemed to pill much more easily. It still rolls up correctly, stores correctly, and so on. It just isn't as comfortable as the previous one. I wish I kept that one instead of ordering a new one.

El colchón me gustó, recomiendo poner una sábana para evitar que se ensucie la funda principal, el tamaño es el de una maleta grande y el peso es pues es más o menos considerable como para cargarlo en caminatas largas, pero si usas transporte no debería haber problema, en caso de tener que viajar de emergencia, recibir visita o hacer un viaje en carretera largo, puede ser de utilidad para estar más comodo.
