Not "Made in USA"
But at least it's not made in China. The box says "Made in Sweden."(which makes sense, as Electrolux is a Swedish company.) As for it being washable, I tried rinsing the old one under running water. A lot of filthy water ran out, but when the water seemed to be running clear, I looked carefully - it seemed awfully soggy - no surprise there - but it also seemed more than a little spongy & ready to fall apart. I ended up tearing it apart and saw a lot of dirt still left in the folds of the fiberglass. I decided that, no, it's not washable. Those of you rinsing yours, are you SURE you've gotten it clean? How efficient can a "cleaned" filter be if there's still gunk in it? The fact that there was so much dirt in the filter indicates that it's quite efficient at filtering stuff. Good job, Electrolux, even if it isn't washable.

Well Worth the Investment for Many Electrolux Models
Fits perfectly in my Electrolux UltraFlex Canister Vacuum, and because it can be washed with water (many people are not aware of this, since it is a bit counter-intuitive), it's a good buy, too, as long as you don't abuse it, for example, by trying to "scrub" it when washing: rather, just rinse each side with warm or hot running water, and then let dry. Another helpful tip: when you water rinse, knock the filter a few times against the sink to remove the bulk of the water, and then set the filter on its side for 24 hours. The reason you want to let it sit for 24 hours is to ensure that the filter is fully dried out before the next use; putting the filter of its side (i.e., so that it is standing "up" in the air) will also speed the drying process as gravity pulls the water downward. If you attempt to use the filter before it is fully dried out, the vacuum's motor may have to work extra hard to pull the air through the filter, running the risk of overheating and burning out the motor. So, give the filter a full 24 hours to completely dry, and then put in back in place within the vacuum cleaner. It's tempting to put it back in place as soon as you've rinsed it out, but think about the price of replacing the entire vacuum cleaner if its motor burns out! Since this is a fully HEPA-compliant filter, this last filter in the airflow path of your Electrolux (there are a number of pre-filters in the vacuum to catch the major dust and dirt) you can be pretty sure that you are not just throwing more fine dust matter into the air as you vacuum. Well worth the investment! Five stars. Another tip: If you are not sure if this item fits your specific Electrolux model, look at the top of the Amazon page, right beneath the name of the item. You should see a link that says something like "Check to see if this fits my model" (or something similar), enter your specific model, and the system should tell you. There is also a pretty long list of models listed a little further below this link where you may also find your model listed.

Good price for longevity of product
I purchased this filter (in Jan 2014) as a replacement for the filter in our Factory-Refurbished Electrolux EL6988E-R Oxygen Canister Vacuum (White)- purchased in July 2011. This filter fit perfectly in my Electrolux. It works well and has not caused any problems. I did not have to force it in. I popped in correctly. I vacuum once a week for about 45 minutes and we have a cat. We do not have children yet. I also have severe allergies and this filter helps keep them in check. I am pleased with the value of the this filter because our original filter lasted for 2.5 years. I fully expect this replacement to last that long. That's a good price for a filter that lasts so long! Regardless of manufacturer recommendations, just look at your filter to determine if it needs replaced. I checked ours on a regular basis and it was always clean, with no debris or discoloring. I finally decided to replace it because it was starting to actually look dirty. I will update this review in 6 months to a year if the filter doesn't last as long as desired.

This is the Duogreen Brand filter replacement
I just received two of these filters and they fit my twin clean electrolux. But, I'm a bit ticked that not only are these made by Duogreen ( which I already knew) and advertised as Electrolux...these filters are also listed on amazon under the Duogreen brand for less money. Do a search on amazon for Duogreen filters and this item will appear. I'm assuming it is washable because it looks just like my washable one. However, I must say that even the washable filters from Electrolux haven't held up well after washing. So, I may just vacuum them from now on since these filters are becoming obsolete. I gave the filter 4 stars for being compatible even though i'm not certain that it will perform as well. Only experience can give me that info.

Genuine Electrolux replacement
I ordered this item from Amazon in November 2012 and again in spring 2013, and it is the genuine product. The box says Electrolux. Prior to this positive experience I ordered what I thought was an Electrolux filter but cheaper from a different seller, and I received a generic replacement brand. Truth in advertising is a must for a reputable seller, so I will keep buying it from Amazon at a higher price. How can you tell the difference in what you are getting? I'm not sure if it always works, but pay close attention to the images on the product detail page (not the search page). The generic brand is pictured with no box. The genuine Electrolux brand product detail page shows a gray product box front. The product box reads Electrolux in the upper-right corner has a gold/blue oval image in the upper-left area with white letters "s.bag".
