Solid value, smooth sounding tweeter, great snare drum pop, light weight, small magnet
I placed these speakers in the front doors of my 2000 Ford F-350. It has the loud diesel engine, so the speakers had to be capable of high volumes. They were replacing some pretty nice Infinity Kappa speakers from ~8 years ago. The Infinity speakers had aluminum dome tweeters and very large magnets. The sound was pretty good, but they fatigued my ears after listening for a while. I could never quite get them set right to play loud without being kind of harsh. These Alpine R-types have the ring type soft dome tweeters, so they are not harsh at all. You can really hear the difference on the crash symbols and "S" sounds from vocals. The snare has a really nice pop to it as well, which I love. You can feel the impact of the snare and toms just like a real drum set. I'm actually getting some pretty good bass from them too, even with the high pass set at 60hz. Installation was very easy since these have the small, light weight magnets. I think it's like any good speaker - you have to put in the work on the installation. I have a wood mounting surface and closed cell foam between my speaker and the door panel with dynamat all over everything. If you plan on doing a good installation, amping them, and running a subwoofer, then you should not be disappointed with the smooth, accurate sound of these.

Excellent sound
I had the type s 6x9's before the type r's and let me tell you the difference is not night and day but is noticeable. What is interesting to me is the size of the type s vs type r magnets. The type r's magnet is about 1/4th the size of the type s which is a good thing for installation purposes and fitting into tight places, but is unsual to me because the type r does sound better than the type s and one would expect the type r to have the larger magnet given its price point and level in Alpines speaker line. One could argue that the type s 6x9 has more bass than the type r in terms of low bass, and that may be true due to the magnet size of the type s. Seriously, pick up a pair of type s and look at the magnet vs the type r's its inane. But, I don't buy 6x9's for low bass I buy them for mid punch bass and thats just what these speakers do. They are being fed about 80 watts RMS a piece and get loud and clear. I am very happy with my purchase. Type S 6.5 components up front (soon to be type-r) and these 6x9's in the rear powered by a ct sounds at 60.4 slash polk audio d2000.2.

Received Broken Tweeter
The media could not be loaded. Unboxed the speakers to install in the rear deck of the Mustang only to find one of the tweeters was broken.

Unbelievable.
These are incredible speakers. A little expensive but they were one of only a couple of pairs that could handle the 100 watts rms rating of my Alpine A60F Amplifier plus they were a perfect match! When I set the gains on the amp, I turned my Alpine ilx-207 all the wsy up snd there was no distortion. And then I turned the amp up to 3/4 full volume before I heard a little bit and I backed it down. These things are incredible. Especially if you have subs and crossovers!!!! Awesome dound quality.

arrived broken 4 times in a row..
I ordered and returned my alpine speakers 4 times in a row because the tweeter in the middle was unstuck and moving all over the place. for speakers worth $300 I expected more quality than that...

Just OK
Not at all like the hype online. They sound ok at low volumes and crappy at mid to high volume.Honesty not much better then the stock speakers in my taurus. For the price I would not recommend as a good upgrade.
