The sleeve is slightly larger so there is no struggle with putting a laptop inside the case. The padding is sufficiently decent to provide extra protection when in a backpack or in luggage. I would still not recommend using just this case when packing in luggage (as airlines tend not to be gentle with baggage). Rather add some additional padding when packing in luggage. There is additional room to put cords and power supply in the case (barely) but I recommend just using it with a laptop. The material is flexible so you can fold it and pack it away when not in use. It appears to be some soft of "spongy" neoprene rubber-like material. There is no adverse smell to the material. The zipper appears to be nylon and worked just fine during my travels with it. Overall this is a very inexpensive and decent item. I would buy it again.
