A MUST for the Frugal Canner
This is not my first mason jar lid lifter, and I love these things, they make a world of difference when opening pressure canned foods. The allow you to break the vacuum seal and lift the lid off with minimal warping and damage to the edges, which means you'll get much more use out of your mason jar lids. While I know that "by the book" a mason jar lid should only be used once, I do think that that's pretty wasteful, and as someone experienced with pressure canning, I prefer to spend the time to inspect my lids and reuse what I can. If a lid is visibly warped, has damaged edges or visible rust, it's time to let it go. In some North American cities, you can put the lids directly in recycling, check your local recycling guidelines.Asides from opening mason jar lids, this opener is also good for breaking the vacuum seal on hard-to-open commercially canned goods such as jams and pickles. Just lift until you see the safety button at the top pop up, and the lid should twist off easily. If I had to nitpick, I'd mention that my other lid lifters work just as well and are practically identical, just sans the branding, which I do prefer. Price wise, they were also a few bucks cheaper. But overall, this jar opener does it's job well, and I barely consider these little details shortcomings.

Works well; I'm glad I got it before the price hike!
Work well. It is solid, not cheaply made (or sold!) so it won't bend or break during use; should be durable. I almost didn't buy it at the time (last month) because of the price of about $16. Crazily enough, they are now asking $25!!! My advice if you want this is to save it in your list and wait for a possible price decrease; these items tend to fluctuate.

A useful gadget you didn't know you needed
We have a chamber vacuum system and seal a lot of crushable, perishable foods, both fresh and frozen in Mason jars. But then again in years past, we did a far amount of home canning as well. Many households of today rarely use Mason Jars, much less seal them tightly by canning or with a vacuum system. If you fit this latter bill, then this gadget is may not be for you, unless you also have problems opening screw type jar lids. However, for those few remaining, read on. Have you ever broken fingernails trying to pry off the sealed lids of Mason Jars? Did you ever struggled trying to use a table or (worse yet) a kitchen knife to do the same thing? Have you struggled to remove sealed screw type, metal lids on commercially packaged items, such as pickles, juices, etc. If so, then this simple, well made, highly chromed gadget is for you. With it one can pop off a Mason Jar lid in a moment and leave the lid unbent and undamaged for reuse. The metal tab part of the gadget can be used to pry under the lip of sealed jars to release the vacuum inside and make for easy removal. It can also readily remove Crown cap seals such as found on beer bottles, or be used to pry under the tab of a soft drink can.All that being said, the offered price for this opener is not cheap. But then the heft, weight, and general finish of the opener is not chintzy either. It will last a lifetime. Suggestion: if you purchase one of these, get one of those refrigerator magnets with the hooks, and hang this opener on it for quick and easy access instead of having to hunt through an "everything" drawer. You maybe surprised at how often you use it, when it is readily accessible.Be sure to watch the video reviews of this product as they illustrate how this thing is used very, very well. But for opening tough screwed on lids of any kind, I whole heartedly recommend the EZ Off Jar Opener for Weak Hands - Under Cabinet, Easy Grip, One Handed Jar & Bottle Opener - Removes Tight Jar Lid for Seniors with Arthritis - Essential Kitchen Gadgets for Home Assistance - White also available on Amazon. That gadget can be stuck to the underside of a kitchen cabinet, and I have yet to find a screw on lid that will not instantly loosen. (BTW, this under cabinet opener is not recommended for any who have torn rotator cuff or other shoulder injuries, where one cannot easily raise an arm. If that's the case stick with the opener of this review.)

Handy tool for opening home canned jars
This is the 2nd one I've purchased mainly for back up. But the tool is very handy to open your jars with and not damage your lids. Especially if you reuse your lids like I do for dry goods VS. It's a good quality tool. Not flimsy or cheaply made. Arrived quickly. Price was a little too high IMO but now days....what isn't overpriced??? Go ahead make the jump to purchase. It'll be handy for your home canning supplies.

Best tool I have in my kitchen!
It's easy to use and makes almost every jar easy to open. I love this Mason jar lid opener. I don't have a lot of strength in my wrist, and this makes it so much easier for me.

NOT a jar wrench, but a top-popper
Very sturdy, wont bend or break, has its place in a kitchen. Only, when I read it would open mason jar lids, I thought it would open rings and lids. Nope. Just the sealed portion of the lid, not the ring. Since I reuse the lids and rings, I will keep this to open the top of the lid, and will still have to find a jar wrench. My HUGE pipe wrench is a bit too bulky to fuss with, although it works, after a fashion. Many of my dehydrated foods are dry-packed in one-piece tops, that combine a lid and a ring. -And are a monster to re-open, after my O2 absorber does its thing. Still looking... If this item were just a bit wider to fit a wide mouthed ring...

Great little tool!
I absolutely love this little gadget & have used it a lot already! It works really well for opening my home-canned goods & it does not damage the snap lids, making them reusable for vacuum sealing jars! Yes, they are pricey, but I'm so glad I ordered one & I have since ordered more to give away as gifts!

Todo estuvo muy bien, llegó rápido y funciona muy bien para mis enlatados, lastima que sea tan caro, lo bueno es que es sólo un vez.😉

Perfect but expensive
It is the best jar opener I have ever had. But it is too expensive for that design. I cannot understand why manufacturers cannot increase production to reduce costs. It is an old, proven but forgotten design from the mid-50-s. Nothing fancy.
