I know you only need to change the filters once a year and back flush them after 6 months, but I always dreaded it because it usually meant an unexpected shower for me. That this thing actually fits the filters makes for a much better task.

When I saw the KrohneTec Filter Primer Pump Replacement for Berkey Primer, Fit to BB9 FilterBrand: KrohneTec listed on Amazon I decided to purchase it to prime some of my water filers because the picture looked so neat. However, when I received my order it came already assembled in a small package and the tubing was kinked and appeared as to have been exposed to some heat. I tried to straighten out, but did not work. Then, I decided to exchange it for another one like the one on the picture, but when I received the second set it was just the same except with one less kink.I think it was a good idea for this product, but the manufacturer needs to find a better way to pack this item in the future.

Received in a plastic bag with badly kinked plastic tubing attached to the bulb. Not as shown in the listing picture. Very cheaply made product. Not worth the money.

Best feature about this primer is that it can work by submersion instead of having to use the force of the sink to primer your water filters. The typical force needed to prime my Berkey filters puts too much force on the faucet and this pump will alleviate that Additionally, this pump will work in situations where there is not faucet with water pressure so that we can prime the filters by dipping the end in bowl of water. That is more than valuable for more remote sources when priming your filters. The materials appear to be of good quality and it seems a big expensive for what it is, but it does add portability to my water filter and could work great in an RV, camping, or in the house.

This device is not useful nor diverse enough for the different faucet types existing in the different households. There needs to be an independent way to connect a water source at one end and filter to the other end so that water can flow through under more controllable pressure in order to prime it correctly. This was cumbersome and messy. A more simplistic setup is needed.

This works at priming Berkey filters by hand without the need for a sink. If you're at home, then this is less necessary, but if you're out in the field, where Berkeys are often used, you don't always have access to reliable running water nor do you necessarily want to wait for your filter to cycle through a gallon or 2 to get out some of the filter residue. This works for that limited purpose. There's not much more to realistically expect from this. This works so deserves a good rating.

I find that priming the filters for my Berkey with the supplied tools to be one of the more frustrating tasks in my kitchen. This primer is immensely helpful in successfully priming the filters for your water filter, be it a Berkey or other brand. This is one of my favorite kitchen tools now, highly recommended.

After replacing the kinked suction hose with a section of longer silicon 10mm hose from my shop and cutting a kink out of the exit hose the hand pump works. They should leave the hoses unattached until the customer gets the pump so the hose is not ruined and kinked upon receiving it.
