Portable Air Conditioner, 12,000 BTU Cooling, 9,000 BTU Heating for Rooms up to 550 Sq. Ft., Follow Me Remote, Smart AC Unit, BPACT12HWT, White

I've been using the12,000 BTU Air Conditioner w/ HEAT MODE unit since the summer of 2020 as my sole lower-level cooling source and to help my furnace in the winter. I live in an old, not-very well-insulated small 2 BR farm house with NO central air in the U.P. of Michigan two hours north of Green Bay, WI. Summers here, though relatively short, can be hot, humid and miserable – winters here go without saying (cold as h***). This ONE unit, with the help of a few strategically placed fans, has done a decent job of keeping the house cool in the summer, cutting down on the humidity inside and keeping my propane furnace from kicking over as often in the winter when heat mode is on. My thoughts: PROS: • Since 2020, absolutely NO mechanical issues whatsoever – cools & heats quickly and efficiently. • Unit is on castors – it’s easily moveable and not too heavy if you need to lift it over stairs. • Not overly loud when running – it’s no worse than most small window A/C’s I’ve used in the past (i.e., it doesn’t wake me up at night or startle me when it kicks over). CONS: • The venting kit isn’t the best – I had to modify the one that came with it to get a decent seal on the window I use for venting (CRTICIAL if you intend to use the unit in heat mode during winter). • The vent hose that attaches to the back of the unit can pop off easily if you move it around a lot (duct tape can help here though). • Isn't the easiest to drain the drip pan depending on where you have the unit set up (think keeping your carpet or hardwood floor dry here - draining is best done in an area that can be easily mopped up). NUTREAL: • Unit comes with a remote which has a programable timer. I’ve not used it much since I have mine on a smart plug that I can turn on or off through Alexa (or another smart plug app). • The thermostat on the unit disagrees with my home thermostat display – I’ve learned through trial and error what number to set it on to keep my house temperature level throughout. • The protective plastic film that covers the control panel has started to wear after three years of use, but isn’t unsightly or the end of the world (I could probably remove it, but why?)… Overall, I’ve been very impressed with this unit and just purchased another one (the 14,000 BTU AC w/ Heat this time) to better manage the climate and cooling/heating turnaround time in my home. These units are nice because they are transportable – truly HVAC multitaskers if you live up north without central air. Folks down south may not need the heat mode option, but having lived in Florida for a number of years, it’s a nice option to have available for those cooler nights in winter for a few extra bucks. Just my 2.3 cents here... I give this unit 4.5 stars out of five simply because of the vent kit and the hose attachment on the back – nothing that a little creative engineering can’t solve though… Solid device!

This unit replaced an air cooler that I bought last year and this has been an absolute God send! I completely regret buying that air cooler and wish I would have thought of ordering this air conditioner instead!! I work night shifts and sleep, of course, during the heat of the day and this unit has worked beautifully cooling my bedroom down to a comfortable level. We have been having "a heat wave" if you want to call it that in my state with an average of 95 degrees and it has been doing an excellent job of keeping my bedroom cool and comfortable. Now, I've been reading some of the negative reviews about its cooling abilities and all I can say is that read what this units ability to cool is. I don't have the manual in front of me, but I believe it states it can cool a 200 square foot room, so if it's any larger, yeah, it might not do what you want it too. Other reviews talked about a difficulty to install but I had no problems. I have a very large side opening window and I ordered a widow kit (also off Amazon) that basically is strips of Velcro that you attach to your window and frame and attach a zippered material that fills in the gap between the two and you unzip where you want the exhaust hose to vent out of and it's simple as that! I don't live in a humid state so I can't say if the tank fills up with water often but the manual states that it shouldn't often? I'm sure that depends in the area you live but I don't think I'll have to worry about that but that seemed to be another "complaint" about his unit. So far, as an owner of a few days, I have absolutely no complaints. Easy to set up, cools my room perfectly and is so much quieter than an air cooler. I can hear my tv even on the highest fan setting. I also like the fact that I can heat my room in the winter so this unit can be used year round for me! I think if you can make sure it's capable of cooling your room, you won't be disappointed! And just for an update: Been using the heat setting and it works great! Real warms the room up! You just have to find a place for the vent to blow the cold air either outside or towards another room. I have the vent point downstairs and it works just fine. This unit really has been worth every penny

By far the worst AC I've ever had especially at the price!! Amazon was great with shipping and they were very accommodating when it came to ultimately returning this AC unit. As for the manufacturer... don't waste your time trying to contact them. I never got a reply besides from their automated e-mailed system. At first I was super excited to get this AC since it claims to do it all. Air conditioner, heater, and dehumidifier. The installation was pretty easy we just had to connect the hose to the back of the unit and the other end to the window. I did have to drill away at one of the window slots that came with the unit since my window wasn't as wide as the slots. It was a slight inconvenience since my window is pretty standard size but easily fixed. As for the unit placement in my 100sqft bedroom it was very much "in the way". The instructions mention to not have any sharp bends on the exhaust hose to allow proper ventilation. Of course I wanted the best performance from this unit so I followed the instructions very carefully. Now to the main reason I bought this this AC unit. The reviews were great and it was on a list of one of the best AC units out there. With the insane NYC heat this summer I decided to splurge a bit and get this unit. When it came time to finally use it I noticed right away how much it did NOT cool down my bedroom. I decided to give it some time figuring it was just warming up. Well the next morning I woke up sweating. It was so hot in my bedroom and the unit seemed to only cool off the immediate area around it. If I were to walk to the other side of the room it felt like I had no AC running at all. After about a month of waking up resenting this unit I had enough and decided to return it. I contacted Amazon and explained to them the situation. The allowed me to return the unit but unfortunately I wasn't provided with a full refund since it was past their 30 day return policy. However, they worked with me and advised I contact the manufacturer since it was a possibility I received a defective unit. Amazon also provided me with an additional credit to make up for the bad experience I had. I e-mailed the manufacturer with a detailed story of what I had gone through trying to use their product. I received a confirmation from their automated system that they received my e-mailed and that they would get back to me soon. A little over a month later and nothing. I never got to try the heating system and the dehumidifier option was a complete joke and waste of electricity. Overall I lost about $120 but gained the knowledge of never buying a Black and Decker unit ever again. I now have two separate AC units placed in both my living room and bedroom which for a bit more money cools down my whole apartment including my living room which is twice as big as my bedroom! Used for our summer cabin. Cooling helped out for really hot days and heating worked well too. The amount of water it collects needs drained alot. The drain should be higher. I had to left it up to get the water to drain into a pan.

First and foremost, this portable AC unit is much quieter than I expected. Yes, it is louder when the compressor is running than when it is not. However, either way it’s significantly quieter than my Twin Window Fan with 9 Inch Blades ever was and cools my bedroom way better. It’s also not as ugly as I expected it to be. lol I’ve run it for a week now and love it. Two things they could have done better on this unit: 1. Allow the user to turn off the LEDs. They are so darn bright. To its credit, this unit does have a SLEEP mode which does dim the LEDs a bit, but it also locks the fan into low speed which is unacceptable. My solution: I lay an old canvas belt across the top of all the LEDs when I go to bed so it stops lighting up the whole room. Minor inconvenience and still better than most units out there. 2. Allow the user to directly select the mode they want without cycling through every one. Both the remote and the touch controls on top of the unit have only a single MODE button. So, if you want to switch from AC to FAN, you must first cycle past DEHUMIDIFIER to get there. And if you want to switch it back from FAN to AC, you must cycle past HEAT to get there. Yes, it make the controls more simple, but sometimes simple is just plain stupid. This is more of an irritation than an issue. TIP: Now for something that should be done better for every portable AC unit on the market: PLEASE INSULATE THE EXHAUST HOSE! Seriously, the exhaust hose on these things gets very warm to hot to the touch and happens to be right next to where the ambient air temperature sensor is located on the back of the unit. So, not only does the uninsulated hose radiate heat back into the room you are trying to cool, but it also messes with the thermostat on the unit. This unit uses the same type of hose and window plates as just about every other unit on the market and none of them are insulated. Do yourself a favor, if you own a portable AC unit, get a 6” duct sleeve or some other type of duct insulation and wrap your exhaust hose. You’ll be so glad you did.

Purchased this unit last summer and it has been working beautifully ever since. With the heat ability, I was able to keep my shop warm enough to work in all winter without a huge increase in my utility bill.

If you have a drafty house and you don't care about energy efficiently, or phone app control ,this unit could work for you. The room I aimed to heat and cool is exceptionally well-sealed. I applied caulk to all cracks which could allow any amount of air in (or out). I attempted to use this on a room with an extra tall ceiling and about 200sqft, which is smaller than the recommended size. The fan on this unit is incredibly powerful, and when turned on low, it creates so much negative air pressure that it forcefully pulls the seals back on the door and it caused a whistling noise (too loud to talk on the phone). Around the door, I could easily feel the outside air being sucked in. In addition to the disturbing noise of the door seals, when I opened the door, there was so much negative pressure created I had to be cautious to prevent the door from slamming into my face! This example demonstrates why single hose AC units are impractical!! They only work in drafty rooms (without the above problems) and are inefficient due to all the air they extract from the room, leading to outside air and humidity entering through cracks in the building structure. I replaced it with a Hisense dual-hose 10k BTU unit (with heat), and the noise is low (enabling phone conversations), and also the door seal did not whistle (thanks to the dual-hose design - completley eliminating room negative pressure). For the price of this B&D unit, I would have expected it to include WiFi control. I chose Hisense for its 2 individual hoses because I run the hoses to basically 2 dryer vents. If I hadn't needed to use dryer vents for exhausting the heat, I might have chosen the Midea since it offers WiFi and heat and effectively a dual hose design... but they have a single tube (tube-in-a-tube design) that wouldn't easily adapt to my existing 2 dryer vents. The B&D remote is infrared, so you have to aim directly at the unit (surprisingly outdated for 2024; why not control via a phone app?).

I wasn't sure about how this would heat, and granted I’ve only had it less than a week .. I pray it continues to work this well for a long time … living in a singlewide with less than decent insulation .. in the midwest .. heaters in winter are given a run for their money trying to keep the interior comfortable while its below freezing outside.. as long as you sit in front of a space heater that side of you gets warm .. well not with this baby .. (BLACK+DECKER Smart Portable Air Conditioner with Heat, 12,000 BTU (8,000 BTU SACC) Cooling, 9,000 BTU Heating for Rooms up to 550 Sq) it heats differently than a space heater.. it heats the air with a decent blower even on low .. it has adjustable thermostat to set a temp where you want it and it shuts off when it reaches that temp. The whole room and down the hall , even into the kitchen is warmed .. I’m impressed .. NOW THE ONLY THING is this .. unless you want to fool with draining every hour or so … HUGE PIA , yes this heater needs drained much like a portable ac , get aquarium tubing (5/8" ID x 3/4" OD ) and attach to the bottom drainage spout (yes it comes with a drainage hose to use, but we didn't have much luck getting it to flex how we needed it to, maybe you will have better luck) and drill a hole in the floor for it to constantly drain .. ever since we did that we haven't had to continuously manually drain it .. it only collects about 2 cups of water before you get the E4 warning light that calls for draining it .. and once you get that light, you wont be able to use the heater until its drained .. and here it happened every hour or so .. but other than that .. so far so good .. it truly is the best portable heater we have had in over 20 years .. hopefully it lasts a long time working as well as it does now .. the fan even on low is strong.. yes you can hear it but it’s a small price to pay for good heat .. I completely recommend this heater , esp if you live in a trailer

DO NOT BUY! I never thought this could be so loud.... This piece of machine should be $300, but because of the supply shortage it was over $1000. I don't even know what is worse - the heat or the loud cranky sound!!!
