Peace of mind
I think it's very important to have that assured fit to the Sammy specifications especially if you're using brass from another fire gun or picked up brass or even new brass

Headspace Only
It's a headspace-only gauge that doesn't do case length or COL. It seems like either spec would be easy to machine the gauge to, Lyman and Wilson both do combination headspace/case length gauges, and Lyman and Sheridan Engineering do combination headspace/COL gauges.I have this Hornady cartridge gauge, and also a Wilson case gauge and a Sheridan all in the same caliber. Sheridan is the best of the three and worth the $60 for a slotted headspace/COL gauge. The Wilson does do both headspace and case length as mentioned in a 1 star review here, and the Hornady gauge does NOT to case length. But the Wilson gauge is reamed out more in the body to check length on fired brass that hasn't been full length resized (the LE Wilson description clearly says "does not measure body diameters"). The Hornady gauge is reamed tighter to check the body dimension for minimum SAMMI spec of .4708 to .4440 wall taper to chamber in any gun and not just the one the brass was fired from previously. So three stars for being useful for headspace and maximum spec body diameter, just wish it did case length or COL also.
