I do wipe it off each time but that's just because I want to be extra careful I am not getting any extra paint on the the ceiling. It does take mindfulness to only use the one side and not flip it - bc you need to pick one side that is clean and the one side will have the extra paint on it--get lazy and you'll accidently choose the wrong side.
