It's always been the biodegradable kind from either 7th Generation or Ecos. However, those huge plastic bottles - UGH! So now, I have the best of both worlds with Dropps Laundry Detergent Pods. The scent is light and calming. It's true that the smell won't stay on your clothes for days of weeks as seems to be the case with some highly toxic detergents. However, we have a septic tank to consider as well as the overall environment to consider, so not having a lingering smell on my clothes really doesn't concern me. They come out clean and I know I'm doing right by the environment. One pod is usually fine unless I'm doing a fairly large load such as sheets and a blanket, then I drop in two.
